Post Radical Robotic RP in 2019 my PSA level has risen from <0.02 to 0.36 over the last 6 months. Told I should now be asking for a Gallium PSMA PET/CT Scan to see where the cancer is now. Not heard anything about this sort of scan until now and I’d be grateful if someone could tell me if this type of scan can spot cancer at this level of PSA and whether this gallium scan is available for NHS patients.
Thanks for your reply. I’m a bit confused by the different types of scan. It looks like I’ve a recurrence and someone told me I should ask for a Gallium PSMA PET/CT Scan to see where the cancer is now. Don’t see anything about this type of scan on NHS site so wondering if anyone has had this type of scan through the NHS.
I first had a CT scan, then a bone scan & MRI. I was told that as my PSA was 40 and I'd had significant weight loss (which is what partly took me to GP) they felt there was strong likeelyhood the cancer had spread but non of the scans found it. It was after this and my biopsy that they sent me to Oxford for the PET-SCAN. It is definitely available on NHS in NHS hospitals. Maybe you need to raise it with specialist nurse or your consultant. Or maybe give macmillian a call! Good luck Freddie
