Hubby was diagnosed 8 years ago.with locally advanced prostate cancer

Been on 3 monthly hormone injections since and all been OK

Got told last week its now very aggressive and has spread to.his lungs and kidney...also got an MRI to check his liver

Also been told he has a 50% chance of surviving a year

It's never gone to his bones

  • Hi Isabella,

I am so sorry to hear this out of the blue development in your husbands condition. After 8 years it’s changed and that’s a bitter blow for you.

my husband was diagnosed at stage 4 in October 21 with lung and bone mets and I know long term survival is not great but he is stable on Arbiterone and Prostap.

there are trials and other treatments available to extend life. One of the most recent is a drug called Darolutamide added in to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Search my post a couple of weeks ago.

usually PC goes to bones first and so I’m wondering in your case if prostate is the primary??

    sending you much love,

    Louli

  • Hi thanks for replying to my post

So we just got mri results and cancer now in liver also

He has been on many trials

Been told 20% cases of prostate cancer go to organs and not bones....unfortunately hubby is in that 20%

He is starting on pallitive chemo next week

  • Hi Isabella,

it’s the words you dread and never want to hear. I’m so sorry. My heart goes out to you both. thank you for the 20% info I had no idea about that.
if you need a chat just message me anytime.

    sending much love,

  • Hi Isabella,  I was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in July 2009, PSA 8.4,  and had a prostatectomy in November 2009. psa dropped to less than .05.    In April 2011 it rose to .02 and I had 30 sessions of radiotherapy.  PSA then dropped back to virtually zero.   Over the next few years PSA  started to rise slowly and I was put on zoladex and then prostap.   By October 2020 my PSA had risen to 31.8. and I was put on a course of enzalutamide  Over the next 10 months I lost 12kg in weight,  contacted oncologist who said that enzalutamide was an appetite suppresant and told me to stop taking it.  I then started to put on some weight.  In January of this year I saw another oncologist as my usual one had retired.  He told me that my PSA had risen to 183 and that in his opinion I had only 5 or 6 months to live. No trace of it having spread to my bones although he suspects it may have gone to my lungs.  He then put me on a course of chemotherapy , docetaxel,,  10 sessions altogether, I have had 5 so halfway through.  He said that this will not cure my cancer but may extend my life.   There are various side effects but nothing I can't cope with.  I am now 78 years and we are trying to live our life as we have always done,  and hope for the best.. .  Best regards  Daddy
