Hello - Ive had the first 2 of 20 radiotherapy sessions and interested to hear from anyone who has gone through the same..My diagnosis is a recurrence 3 years 6 months following a Prostatectomy.
After the second one today I don't have any side effects yet but was informed that If I do they generally start during the second week.
Has anyone any experiences of side effects during radiotherapy on the prostate bed.
Hi
As Steve has said the side effects of the RT take a couple of weeks to kick in.
I was the reverse of Steve, in that I had diarrhoea. This, in part, was my own stupid fault, as I decided to ignore the diet sheet over Christmas. Not funny. That said, once I behaved myself all was pretty good.
Regards
Stuart
Hi
I’m having RT , yesterday was my ninth out of twenty. Around an hour after I had diarrhoea for around 4 hours before it settled down, I agree with Stuart diet is so important so I will be checking with my team what I can do as I don’t want to go through that again .
Cheers Tony
Hi Stuart..
Can you help me.
My Brother’s going through radiotherapy now, 4 weeks on 2 left, but he’s absolutely exhausted. Yesterday I batch cooked for him, chicken curry, chilli c.c and lasagnes, I knew he loved those. I didn’t put hot chilli powder as I was afraid it would make him I’ll…. ANYWAY.. I phoned him tonight and he said he’s not allowed spicy food, so I asked him if he had a diet sheet so I could cook more appropriate food for him while he’s going through the treatment.. he hasn’t had one, all he’s been told is, no spicy food, no carbonated drinks and no caffeine. I’ve trawled through the internet searching for a diet sheet, but can’t find anything, which is how I found this forum..
Can you or anyone please tell me where I can find this diet sheet please?? Or can someone include it on here please??
thank you all, I’ve been reading through these forums and I feel so much better reading all these positive posts, I wish I’d found you guys last August when he was diagnosed.
Hi Lynwen
Well , I'm astonished the hospital doesn't give out a diet sheet, as it's so important ( I believe). Whilst it's fair to say, the things he has been told not to eat, are on the list I was given, there are loads of other things too.
Basically, think about how much fibre is in the food, and try and eat things that are low fibre. Green vegetables, such as cabbage etc, are also to be avoided. Goes against everything we are taught, but there you are! Alcohol is also a big no too - a couple of glasses of wine at Christmas did for me!
Anyway, I'm on my phone at the moment, but when I get home, I will try and figure out a way, of sending you a photo of the diet sheet I was given.

Hi All,
I had my planning scan on Thursday 21st & I start my 37 sessions of radiotherapy on 12th May.
This was given to me by the hospital. The main part I’m struggling with at the moment is not being able to drink after 6.30pm.
I hope this helps.
Tyler
Thank you ever so much Stuart for your reply.
No, nothing, all he's been told is the above, as well as not to eat apple skins and that's about it.
Lynwen
Tyler... your a gem!!!! thank you ever so much..
The thing is again.. no one has told him not to drink after 6.30pm.
He was talking to the Cancer nurse after this treatment last Tuesday when he asked her about his diet and she said he could eat as much pie and chips as he likes!! (which he doesnt, as he's always eaten healthily) but no caffeine, even decaffeinated coffee, which he's resolved to drinking now.. so I got him some local honey and he's started having a teaspoon of that in boiling water instead.
Another thing he's struggling awfully with is the burning sensation in his bladder and wanting to pass urine all the time. He has a catheter, and has had that since end of August, but a few months ago, they took away the bag and gave him a tap so his bladder doesnt become dormant.. but he's up most of the night because of this.. he's taking ibuprofen which helps a bit.. is there anything else he can try to help ease that burning sensation?? He's been told that it's a because of the radiotherapy, I just wondered if anyone on here has found a way of relieving it a bit?
I cant thank you enough, I have learnt such a lot in this forum.
His last PCA result was 0.2 so the hormone injections are working a treat, as for the hot flushes?? well, being his Sister, I just tell him to suffer in silence like Ive had to do for years!!! hahahahahaha that sure puts a smile on his face!! hahahaha..
Thank you both for your help

Hi Lynwen
The sheet I was given is similar to Tylers - I'm hoping that this works!
Hope it helps!
