Hi, due to have a Robotic assisted Prostatectomy in the next couple of weeks.

Just wondered if people who have had the same could tell me what their recovery time was and how long before they could return to work.

Many thanks

  • I had mine 4 weeks ago . Age 69 . Started socialising and going for walks after a fortnight . Feeling pretty much back to normal now . Mostly dry now, but wear tena pants in company , nothing if I stay at home . Going to the toilet a lot , though . I think I could go back to work now , but would prefer another fortnight ( I am totally retired ) . No other problems.

  • Best of luck with the op.  Mine was last June (age 56).  Work signed me off for about 10 weeks - desk job and WFH since 2017.  The initial incontinence after TWOC was somewhat depressing - walking or fatigue would really set things off, but after 5-6 weeks there was a sudden passing of clot debris and continence has been great since then.  Goodbye Tena pads (not needed at all).  Tea/coffee leads to urgency.  Booze not so much (he he).

When you are discharged with the catheter and leg bag, don't bother much with the night stand for the bigger overnight bag.  It just falls over.  Stick the big bag in a bucket by your bedside overnight - that will save the carpet from any accidents.

    All the best

  • Yeah , I’ve moved to decaff too . The only thing I’ve given up . Except for sex, of course .

  • Many thanks for the information

  • Sex?  I remember that... Now it's just what they use to store coal in South Africa
