Had my monthly hormone injection Monday 14th had a very painful few days & rash round injection site along with swollen painful hands
is this normal
Hi Tyler
all I can tell you is that I have prostate cancer which has spread the bone
the injections I’m getting are degarelix 80mg 3 months ago when I was first diagnosed I had a booster of 2 injections that was done by oncology then I was transferred to my local surgery nurse 1st time she done it instead of taking a minimum of 2 mins. She done it in 20secs. I told oncology what she had done & they sent her a video this last injection wasn’t the full 2 mins. More like 1 min.
each time including the booster I have about 5/6 days of pain before it settles down that one last week was horrendous pain for 48hrs along with other systoms I described earlier
seeing consultant this Friday 25th
see what he says
cheers
Hi Flashg
Hubby had his third injection of dagarelix (Firmagon) yesterday. He like you had two initial injections, and now monthly. Bone Mets like you too. The first two were swollen for weeks, a little pain. Second one less swollen and less pain. This time, bruising around injection site but no pain. Bruising we are putting down to the fact that he had his first chemo session 3 weeks ago. We have a nurse that comes to the house to administer it. Not really noticed how long it takes to administer, but will ask next month.
Stay strong
Ginny
I had a reaction on Firmagon last time. It went red and a little bit yellow. It turned out to be an infection. I also noticed that the nurse didn't do the jab very deep (more sideways) hence the swelling wrapped itself round my tummy for a few days.
I think these injections are quite hard to get right and it is definitely best to be well informed about the injection and how it is done.
Hi Ginny
thank you for your info I hope you & your hubby are keeping good
i was over this morning at The Beatson Lanarkshire after I had a phone call to revue my med. & take bloods again, they decided to change mdegralix to Prostap 3 monthly instead of monthly & are looking to put me on Alendronic Acid to support my bone structure
seeing my consultant this Friday I’ll post update after that
stay positive stay safe

Hi Stewart
It would be good to hear the outcome. I'd like to stick with Firmagon for as long possible because of spinal tumours. My Oncologist says that NICE have not found any evidence that Alendronic Acid supports bone structure in Prostrate Cancer. It sounds like one of those where opinions vary and as patients we need to ask lots of questions. Adcal D3 and a healthy diet are of course a must.
Hi Stewart,
I have been on Prostap3 since April 2020 and have never had any problems with the injections at all. I receive them in my upper arm which they alternate each time I go. Been on Alendronic Acid once a week and Adcal-D3 tablets twice a day for about 4 months now, no side effects from either of them and they only add to my list of medications. My consultant is also based at the Beatson although I have still to meet her face to face.
Take care, Tom.
