Hi all,

anyone here got Ductal adenocarcinoma who could perhaps share your experiences with my husband and I. We know it is said to be more aggressive but not much more than that. He is stage 4 bone and lung mets but doing well on treatments with PSA 0.1.

thanks,

Louli

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read that your husband has ductal adenocarcinoma which has spread to his bones and lungs. It must be a very worrying time for you so it's natural to look to share experiences with others.

I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet so typed 'ductal adenocarcinoma' into the group's search bar to see if I could find others with this type of prostate cancer but drew a blank I'm afraid. This might not mean that no other man here has this but just that they haven't posted about it yet.

Responding to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list where hopefully it'll be seen by someone who has this type of prostate cancer and can come here to share their experiences with you.

  • Hi Louli, when I had a prostatectomy in July 2015 the post op histology showed I had intraductal cancer in the prostate as well as adenocarcinoma. The surgeon told me that it is rare and behaves very aggressively. My PSA started rising very quickly around a year after the op. I was given HT for 27 months and 55 grays of radiotherapy to the prostate bed plus seminal vesicle remnants from surgery. I was told by my oncologist that I very likely had metastasis given my PSA was doubling every 5 weeks. He wasn’t keen on me having salvage radiotherapy but I went for it. I am currently in remission which is great. Is your husband on hormone therapy plus Abiraterone or Enzalutamide? Have a read at my profile for more information. Best wishes,

  • Thank you very much! I tried the search bar and also drew a blank… it is very rare and nearly always caught too late. Things are improving all the time with research so fingers crossed. X

  • Thank you Ido4… so glad you are still to the fore and going strong. !! That’s is really encouraging to hear. Yes HT and Arbiterone, steroids and Adcal D3 etc. since October 21. PSA is now 0.1 and being checked again this week routinely.

Unfortunately my darling’s cancer has spread to bone and small areas in both lungs. Chemo and radiotherapy haven’t been offered so we play the waiting game. In fact we are happy to wait forever just as we are right now. If you catch my drift!

i am doing research right now and I think there is one ductal type in the pathology which identifies different cell structure but also seems to be very aggressive but not different treatments offered. Intraductal is another type which I think refers to tissues involved but is equally rare.

Im doing some reading so if I find anything else I will let you know.

    thanks again my friend,

    Louli

  • Thanks Louli, wishing you both all the best.

  • Hi , my husband started abiraterone and steroids 4 weeks ago. He is on  HT and adcal and his PSA dropped to 0.7 and he has not suffered any side effects yet. Details on Bio.Thankyou for sharing , it has filled me with positivity that abiraterone is helping others. My husband is awaiting opinion from spinal consultant re possible surgery due to extensive metasteses in spine. He has disease progression with cancer lesions in ribs, pelvis, humerus and right thigh and is awaiting results of CT scan to see if it has spread to internal organs. We are overwhelmed. We are all on this cancer journey together and it is so hard being positive all of the time.

  • Hi facsy,

I’m sorry you find yourself in the same boat as us but at the same time it is great to hear from another spouse. As you say it’s just so hard to watch and we definitely suffer with our men! I’m utterly heartbroken and emotionally exhausted. Every time he looks pale, gets extra tired or has increased pain I think it’s the end. Talk about blind panic!
Then I come back to this group and hear from all the men here who have been facing PC head on and enduring these brutal treatments for many years with great success and I am filled with admiration and enormous hope! I hope the scans are ok but stay in touch lovely. I will be thinking of you both.

    much love,

    Louli
