Hi
I was diagnosed with APC exactly 4 years ago.
I have just been on a course of 20 radiotherapy sessions which only finished last week.
I was warned by the Radiologist to expect some side effects, some of which I was told may not occur for 2 or 3 weeks.
In the last few days, I have been experiencing quite severe stomach pains/cramp. Can anyone tell me me if this is quite normal and, if so, what remedy would you suggest.
I have been taking pain killers 2-3 times a day to ease the pain but with little effect.
Andy100 One of the side effects of RT can be constipation. Your stomach cramps could be a sign of this.
I finished RT in March 2019 but still suffer from constipation. Taking a sachet of Fybogel every morning and eating three soft figs with some walnuts every evening after supper fixes it, but it soon comes back if I miss them out. It seems a bit strange when we go travelling to pack Fybogel and figs into the luggage but I wouldn't be without them for more than a couple of days.
Thanks very much for the advice Seamus.
You may well be correct with your diagnosis as my bowels seem to be all over the place at the moment and irregular to say the least! I will certainly try out your treatment as quite clearly, it has worked well for you in the past.
Very best wishes,
Andy.
I had problems with my bowls for two weeks after the end of my treatment. Passing blood and mucus with an urgent need to use the toilet. After one bad day, I decided to take an Imodium tablet to see if that would help.I don't know if it was the pill or coincidence but within hours my symptoms stopped and have been normal since.

This happened to me, bowels all over the place and low situated stomach cramps / pain.
GP prescribed 2 x Loperamide 4 x daily
Along with Fybogel sachets 1 or 2 daily
GP said that it could be Radiation Enteritis and to return if this persists.
Glad to say everything has settled down and the cramps / pain
has subsided.
The above medicines are on a repeat script and I find that the Fybogel has great benefits.
I hope that this helps.
Take care and stay safe.
