Hi again
Hope you had a relatively Merry Christmas
I finished SRT in November 2020 one year later my PSA is 0.02.(my profile shows my history)
With new ultrasensitive tests this is not really undetectable.
Studies on the subject vary as some make the assertion that less than 0.05 is undetectable but many of these studies involved data from 2015 to 2020.
I am interested to hear about post SRT PSA levels and how they were a year later and also at 2 years after and if apart from biochemical recurrence there was distant metastasis or solid tumours close to the prostate bed.
I am also interested to hear about eventual side effects from the RT
Wish all of you out there success in beating this horrible cancer.
Troc
Hi Troc, my understanding is that any PSA up to 0.03 is regarded as undetectable so I think you are in a good place PSA wise.
I had salvage radiotherapy in 2017 and stayed on HT until April 2019. I am waiting on my current PSA level after a blood test 22/12 but up to now I have had a PSA of less than 0.1 (ultra sensitive tests aren’t used in my area).
My oncologist strongly suspected I had distant micro metastasis so I am still nervous.
Side effect wise, I have found that my urinary control is less than I would like it, frustrating but one pad a day suffices. I was diagnosed with post RT proctitis and find my back passage to be a bit leaky, this has gotten worse over the last year or so. I have an oncology review next month so will see what is suggested for the bowel issues.
All the best,
Ido4
thanks for this info
I refused ADT .
After RT I had more urgency for urination.
This became better and about three weeks ago I had some new side effects which I also think may be long term, some irritation in colon and sometimes dripping after urination but not incontinence.
this seems to be improving.
I confess to drinking a lot of alcohol (red wine mostly)
During RT I took mariujana oil which helped me sleep.
I still do when I need better sleep.
I cannot get an erection normally but did achieve it once with Virirec and I can have an orgasm which astonished me.
That's about it but I did consult at least 7 urologists and their opinions varied enormously.
My advice to newly diagnosed is to read the books by Walsh and Munson about prostate cancer.
Information is very important.
wish you continuing success in beating this.
Roy
thanks for the answers.
I am having colonoscopy and gastroscopy tomorrow as had some rectal discomfort.
The continence is affected by the SRT as it irriitated the colon and desire to urinate tends to fluctuate even without incontinence
In general I sense that the bowel after SRT is connected to urination frequency but may question the urologists and gastrorenterologists on that.
Will also let you know what they found (fissures or other stuff)
wish you the very best
Roy
Hope all goes to plan tomorrow Roy. Thanks for updating.
best wishes,
Ido4
