Hi all.

How do I find out who my oncologist is who was at my MDT meeting.

Do you at sometime or other get to talk to them. re you treatment.

Thanks

Les

  • I think every hospital seems to operate slightly differently - have you got a specialist nursing team contact. They akways seemed to be able to answer questions

  • Ask anyone on the team you deal with, even the receptionist at the clinic.

You'll be offered an appointment with the oncologist to discuss your options. I had my post-MDT meetings with the oncologist and the urologist on the same day (almost back to back), but not everyone is so lucky.

  • Hi Les

Unfortunately when your first seen, it can be by various oncologists, even the nurses until a team is appointed to you, at some time usually the top person there, has a talk with you but all will come together very quickly and they will make their presence known to you and if there’s any change, then on the next visit you will be informed, usually the nurses move around.

  • I was diagnosis by my Oncologist I the first instance and have seen him (in person) each month for 3 months, another booked with him in 4 weeks time. Was allocated a nurse Heather whom I can speak to at almost anytime. I must admit I thought it was good but assumed we were all treated the same. I’m in Hertfordshire England.

  • Hello Paphos

Usually there are a number of special PC nurses and they can change same as the oncologist I’ve seen around five and had five or six different nurses over the five and a half years I’ve been there, but two are always acquainted with my situation and report back to the head guy.

We are all treated the same, but we are all different, also because of shortages in staff they may be swapped around, or the nurses have moved on to other things it happens, but nothing to worry about there’s always someone ready to take their place if it happens.

    Stay safe

  • All I have seen is one of my Urologist team who explained the treatment options.  I think I will have to speak to my Nurse to find out what they have done/going on.

  • Hi Les

If you are seeing your oncologist, apart from whatever treatment your receiving or will receive, always ask what plan B is so you know if this one starts to fail you have something else to fall back on, it’s helps with the stress and worry believe me.

    Stay safe

For some reason my cnc nurse is never available even on her mobile. I just recieve emails ftom her stating every two weeks it seems she is on annyal leave and is not available. This since i was diagnosed with two inguinal hernias and cancer in june this year ive phoned my dr explained and hioefully is getting my team togethet to review my treatment plan which there seems ni consistancy and laisoning  between all. Im beginning to think its my fault and not complaim.

Im so glad i went to my mdt meeting today. I thought i had been abandoned for a while, but today my treatment plan with maybe a few tweaks on the way. Get my double herniaas repaired. Then about 6/7weeks into 5weeks radiotherapy. God willling might be on the otherside of this but i know we all have to tread carefully but we have to think positive.

  • It's always great to have some idea where you're headed!

Good luck, and keep us informed.
