Diagnosed with advanced metastatic prostate cancer started hormone injection therapy can anyone answer do you get chemo or radiotherapy as well or do they wait until the hormone injection stops working before they start other treatment
Hi
The hormone therapy is to lower your PSA, once it’s down to what they think is ok, then they give chemotherapy that’s how it worked in my case. Nowadays they can combine hormone with some of the new treatments, just depends how they want to go with this, if they’ve started you on hormone therapy then there’s a plan, they should have told you, but probably will very soon.
Just be positive it takes time for things to work you will be in good hands.
stay safe

"It depends" is the answer, I'm afraid.
They will look at age, symptoms, where the metastases are, how many there are, exactly how advanced they are and a dozen other factors, including how effectively the hormones do the job. There is always a case for "using one bullet at a time", but that isn't an unbreakable rule.

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.
Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.
Hi Masrat
Once you are on the HT it will stop the cancer growing.
I was very keen to get it out of me, and frustrated at the lack of action. However, they told me I could be on HT for months without any detrimental effect.
So, whilst I totally get why you want things to move on, let the HT do its job to make the next stage more effective.
Good luck on your journey.

Stuart
Thanks for your reply since my diagnosis of t4 n1 m1 gleason score 9 they have put me on hormone injection and passed me on to oncology and no one had contacted me about what and when the next treatment could be i just feel in limbo at the moment
Hi Masrat
I get that - the waiting is the worst bit when you start on this journey.
The Cancer Nurse Specialists are great so give them a call I'm sure they will be able to help ease your mind.

Stuart
Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Have a read of my profile, I was diagnosed in March this year with the same so my profile maps out the treatment I have had. If you have any questions I'm here, good luck

Paul
