Before I was diagnosed with my early, low grade, low risk prostate cancer, my urologist, following DRE assumed I had BPH and prescribed tamsulosin. However , the biopsy results has changed everything. Should I continue to take this medication? I've read contradicting reports that it may reduce PSA levels. As I'm on active surveillance, I'm concerned that the medication may give a false result on my 3 month PSA test. Has anyone got any information/experience of this? ThomasA
My understanding is that the fact you are taking tamsulosin is noted on your blood test paperwork and the medics will take that into account as it does lower your PSA level. This will allow them to still monitor you properly. Hope this helps.
