Hi All, Tyler19 again.

I collected my medication today from my CNS

I have been put on Bicalutamide 50mg for 28 days. In 2 weeks time I have my first injection of Decapeptyl 3mg. A month after that I have another injection of Decapeptyl, this time 11.25mg. All following injections will be at 3 monthly intervals. Has anyone been on these or is Decapeptyl similar to Prostap 3. I notice that they are both 11.25mg. Just wondering if the side effects are the same for both.

  • . I’m on decapeptyl, at one point they placed me on the 6 months version although I found that too much. Side effects are the same as the body needs to operate without testosterone.

  • Hi Tyler,

Looking at the Macmillan webpages for both drugs it looks as though the side effects are very similar. I had two 1 month Prostap injections followed by 3 monthly ones. I found the first couple of months were fine but between then and when I had my 20 sessions of RT two months later I really struggled with the side effects. After my RT I was completely zonked and had to work hard to get back to some level of fitness. There are prescription medications for hot flushes but they do come with other side effects. I had Cyproterone, which can raise your blood sugar significantly, but I also took Sage Leaf capsules and Evening Primrose Oil capsules which helped a lot.

You will find the Bicalutamide can make you very tired and crotchety! Also very emotional, I found myself crying a lot for no apparent reason during the first few months of HT, but you will get used to it and learn to live with it.

Let us know how you get on with the Decapeptyl.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.

  • Thanks Seamus, luckily enough I’m only on Bicalutamide for 28 days.

  • As others have said, the hormone injections are all pretty similar.

    This page has more information:

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.

Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.

  • Hi Tyler19,

I'm on Decapeptyl 22.5mg, six months of Hormones at once.  Had that after 2 weeks of Bicalutamide.

My side effects are Hot Flushes, mainly at night.  My body automatically pulls the duvet down to cool me down (all I know is when I wake up without the duvet I am cold).  Then I pull it up and I can feel the heat straight away, and the whole thing starts again.

The slightest thing can start me crying.

The only good thing is that you can blame nearly everything on the Hormones.

I know (or hope) it won't be forever, but if it comes down to it, I would gladly remain on it, if it meant I could get my health back.

I don't know how others feel about this.

Anyway, as the nurse told me "it's all for the greater good".

Sorry for waffling on a bit.

    "I blame the Hormones".

See how many times you use this phrase.

  • . I understand, I found six months too much, I requested to go back to three months which I tolerate a lot more. Lot less emotional issues.

  • Young Man,

Hopefully it's just the one more injection (fingers crossed).

  • Hi all, not been on recently although I’ve been reading the posts. Since I started taking Bicalutamide I’ve had 2 different side effects. One is my blood pressure has increased even though I’m on Amlodipine to reduce it. The second is after two weeks I started to get a pain in my right knee. I’m now off the tablets as I only had to take them for 28 days. The side effects haven’t changed, I monitor my blood pressure twice a day & it goes up and down like a yo-yo.
I have spoken to my CNS & also my doctors surgery & they said just keep monitoring it. At the moment it’s averaging around 125/84 which I know isn’t bad but it’s the fluctuation in the reading's. As for my knee it’s seems to lock when I’m resting, I can walk fine. I should have had a face to face meeting with my consultant tomorrow but as usual this will now be a telephone consultation. My doctor’s surgery have been good & said that if I’m not happy with the result of my meeting to contact them & my doctor will see me. Sorry if this has been long winded.

  • Hello Tyler, I got put on the Biculatamide for 28days with a decapeptyl 22.5mg injection after 14 days as you were. I am on these injections for life now and have them every 6 months. I did suffer really bad with hot sweats and fatigue, these have eased as my body has adjusted to them I think over the last few months. The fatigue is still bad if I don't exercise and the sweats are mainly just of a night time, I find evening primrose has helped and I do drink alot of chamomile tea. I am also on enzulatimide which enhances the side effects so hopefully you'll be ok once your body adjusts. Best of luck

    Regards

    Paul
