Hi all,

My clinical pharmacist who is part of my multidisciplinary team (MDT), advised me she is going to prescribe me with Adcal-D3 & Alendronic Acid shortly. I will begin treatment of Alendronic Acid once my dentist is satisfied my dental health is good. It is to do with a rare side effect called ONJ or Osteonecrosis of the jaw bone. Does anyone have any experience of these medications they could possibly share with me? Thanks.

Take care,  Tom.

  • I’m on adcal-d3 it’s a supplement to help protect bones. Alendronic acid has been discussed but not just yet. Good luck

  • Hi Harley D

I've been on Adcal-D3 for about 3 years and, as Youngman says, it is to protect your bones.

I have also been on Alendronic Acid (Zometa) for over 3 years without any side effects whatsoever. Again, this is a bone protector/strengthener which I have by infusion at my local hospital every 12 weeks.

I have been told that it can cause jaw ache if your teeth are not in great shape and, touch wood, I have not had any problems despite not having great teeth due to the policy of "drill and fill" adopted by dentists in the 50's and 60's!

I too was diagnosed with APC at the age of 65 and am therefore about 2-3 years ahead of you in terms of my treatment. From reading your profile, it would appear that your treatment plan has also been very similar although I had 8 doses of chemotherapy after 3 months.

Being a father of 3 and a grandfather of 4, I also intend to fight this disease to the bitter end!

    Very best wishes,

    Andy100

  • Hi Youngman & Andy100, thank you both for taking the time to respond to my request, it is very much appreciated. This is why I think this forum is so good, it only takes 1 or 2 people to respond to make a difference for the person seeking information or help.

    Take care,  Tom.
