Hi peps
I have just completed my first month of Enzalutamide tablets and my PSA is going in the right direction from 168 at the time of diagnosis in April 2021
my next bloods after that in June was .87 and today was .3
I have had the usual side effects of hot flushes and feeling tired with the addition of oedema and itchy heat rash,
I found some cream called Eurax that worked really good on the itch and also cleared up the rash so would recommend this if anyone else is suffering
So far Enzalutamide is being good to me and I hope it continues
I wish you all the very best in what ever treatment you go for
Regards
Chris
Hi Chris42. Good to hear that Enzalutamide is proving to be effective for you and your PSA has gone right down to .3 that's great news. The side effects are "do-able" .
It's always encouraging to other members to read the positive effects of different treatments and the tip about Eurax for the itch and rash is helpful.
Hope you continue to drop back on and post updates.
Hugs, B x

Hello ,Like you I am on Enzalutimide along with the three monthly injections .In my case Enzalutimide is being used as first line salvage treatment along with RT which I had back in January this year I am still hormone sensitive . .Three weeks after starting Enzalutimide in June 2020 my PSA was down to 0.02 from a rapidly increasing 28 after my prostectomy in Feb 2020 .
It continued down and has remained at <0.01 for the last year , according to my consultant completely undetectable now .He is very pleased with me as I had some lymph nodes with prostate cancer showing on the scans and the prostate bed too.My final pathology after prostectomy was high risk Gleason 4 - 3 with some tertiary 5 and a rapid doubling time .No bone mets showing on the scans which was a relief .
Enzalutimide is a remarkable drug for many reasons , it is being trialed in respect of certain bladder cancers and also alongside some immunotherapy drugs to see if makes them more effective.
Hopefully you will have a good result too, not every prostate cancer responds well to Enzalutimide it depends on the type of cancer cell if they are hormone sensitive or not .Research is underway studying why some prostate cancers dont respond to it and hopefully this will lead to more effective treatments to prevent castration resistance
I do suffer from side effects hot flashes, brain fog and a small rise in blood pressure .Restless legs at night too but the nurses gave me a cream to rub on them that works well and I take magnesium too which helps. All in all I'm hopeful that I will maintain a longterm remission and my consultant is hopeful for a cure .Good luck to you !
Up date on my enzalutamide journey
my last blood test sept .07 so again moving in the right direction, the oedema has gone but has been replaced by painful lower legs and restless legs at night, the hot flushes have increased and last a little longer, I wake during the night sweating like a horse after the national, I returned to work last week under a phased return to try and get my life back to some kind of normality so far so good, I am hoping that after my next monthly check up, My PSA is still on the low and I can be put on 3 monthly course of treatment and my next injection is in November.
All in all can't complain too much as things are moving in the right direction
Stay safe my friends I wish you all the very best
Chris
Hi Chris
I am looking into which treatment to go for between chemotherapy and Enzalutamide.
I have been looking on line and forums and seems like Enzalutamide is becoming a positive
alternative.
Its good to see that you are doing well on it and I have seen good feedback on its use.
I think this the route for me to go down.
Regards
Steve
Hi Steve
Enzalutamide is working for me , so I made the right choice, I like you looked at the effects of both chemo and HT the good thing is while it is still funded by the NHS I took the chance and you can always go down the chemo route later if need be.
I wish you well my friend hope you have positive results
Stay safe
Chris
Hi Steve
Good to hear your PSA is going in the right direction too, I hope the effects of the Enzalutamide are as kind to you as they have been for me.
I wish you well my friend, let me know
or should I say let us all know how you get on
Regards
Chris
