I was diagnosed with stage 4 APC 3 years ago at the age of 65, since when I have been on various treatments including hormone patches (as part of a Stampede Trial), and 8 courses of chemo (Docetaxel), which I found very hard to cope with. Although it has been reasonably effective, the treatment took a year out of my life and I am still suffering from some of the side effects. I may have been unlucky although my GP said it was akin to being hit by a truck, which made me feel a lot better! At least my hair grew back!
I said at the time I would never put myself through chemo again but needless to say, things have since changed. A recent blood test showed that my PSA had risen from1 to 7. Although not very high considering I was first diagnosed with a reading of 230, my Consultant is concerned that it is going in the wrong direction.
6 months ago I was prescribed Abiraterone in addition to 12 weekly hormone jabs, but he now says that I need to consider an additional form of treatment and has mentioned the likelyhood of more chemotherapy (Cabazitaxel).
Does anyone have first hand knowledge of this treatment. How effective is it and what are the likely side effects? I really don't want to spend any limited time I may have feeling ill and would much rather get on and enjoy life while I can. I actually feel very well in myself and have a reasonably normal and active life.
Hi
I don't have any experience with Cabazitaxel but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussions list where hopefully it'll be seen by someone who does.
While you're waiting for replies, if you type 'cabazitaxel' into the group's search bar you'll see there are quite a few previous posts which mention this drug. You could have a read through some of those and contact any of the more recent posters if you think they can help you further.

Thank you latchbrook
I'm reasonably new to the site so any advice is always well received!
