I had radiotherapy a year last February I had one PSA test a few weeks later and that was fine but that's it have not heard nothing off anyone since that's over a year ago is this normal procedure thank you

  • Hi SRU and welcome

You should be getting regular PSA tests to monitor, possibly from your GP, and then the hospital will contact you for the result.

I finished my RT in March  2017 and haven't seen anyone since, all contact done over the phone along with PSA.

I would contact the hospital to see what's going on.

Thank you I will do that

  • It does vary from place to place. For example, my GP has always arranged my PSA tests, and I get the result of one when they take blood for the next one. I had mine 3-monthly for four years, then went to 6-monthly - I think many people go 6-monthly rather quicker than that.

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.

Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.

    • You don't say what your PSA was a few weeks after but it's important to get another reading to check that it's not on the rise, hopefully it's still going down.

    Thank you

  • Hi Swans R us

you should have had something from urology dept, you need to contact them, take notes of who you talk to, if they won’t say anything then be a pest keep ringing, get hold of your doctor to do the same, cancer departments are working so there’s no reason for them not to answer you.

    keep safe.

Ok will do thank you very much joe

  • Initially my bloods were taken every three months. Now it's every six months. A nurse at my local GP practice does them. A week later I go in and ask the receptionist for the result. I was released a year ago by the Croaker that did the da Vinci and told not to bother him until my psa got to 0.2.

    Good luck.
