Hi Everyone I am new to the site, I was told that I had cancer in December 2020 immediately after my bladder and prostate gland had been examined with the camera, since then I have had CT, MRI and Bone scans. My full diagnosis was in late January 2021. I have advanced prostate cancer which has spread to my Hips, Pelvis, Lumber Spine Right Arm, Right Urethra and Seminal Vesicles.
I have had 4weeks on Cyproterone tablets, and an injection of Decapeptyl which should last 6 months. Two weeks ago I was started on Enzalutamide tablets, and will be starting radio therapy in mid April, My Gleason score is 9 making my cancer a grade 5, my wife and I are prepared to put up with any side effects to extend my prognosis.
Hi
welcome to our little group, here we try and give advice and any helpful hints. Many of us have been through the same thing including me, I have scores that match yours, and have had many different treatments and medication over my near five year journey.
like you I’am on Enzalutamide the first time I took them ( 4 ) once a day hit me pretty hard, I’am on assorted meds I have type 2 diabetes so maybe the meds didn’t agree with each other. So I stopped the Enzalutamide that was after three months, but after a long conversation with my oncologist I’ve gone back on them, starting at a lower dose building up to the full dose in time.
Each of us is different, so fingers crossed they will be hardly any side effects. My wife is my carer looks after me keeps track of my medication and appointments a real diamond, as all the ladies who see this happen to us are. Let me tell you there will be times she feels helpless seeing you like this, but if your like me who is way to easy going but very positive about staying here your on a winner.
So please keep in touch, if you have problems with the meds then ask us, there’s always someone who will give help.
stay safe
Joe
Hi ulls I was diagnosed same time as u and same treatment it was in my ribs and lymph nodes but was having trouble with my back and they found it it in my spine aswell and on Thursday last the oncologist said they couldn't do the planned radiotherapy as it was in too many places so I don't know how he works that out . Maybe it's my age I'm quite active but I'm 67. Regards john
Hi Mack53, my cancer has spread to a few different places, the oncologist says the radio treatment is aimed primarily at the prostrate, if they can shrink it they can control the spread of the cancer, and the hormone tablets will stop my body producing testosterone, which will help keep the cancer under control, I am still a fit 73 year old. Have you discussed alternative treatment?
I hope which ever treatment you get works, I am on wearside
