After months of discomfort plucked up courage to visit GP with my problems. First referral was to the Sexual Health Services, a bit unexpected as a 40 year married man who is 100% faithful.
On the second visit to the clinic saw a specialist doctor who was concerned about one of the ulcers, I was then referred to Urology for an urgent appointment.
so far, had surgery to remove one ulcer and a biopsy on the other. The removed ulcer has come back as cancerous the other pre-cancerous.
Next, had a full torso CT scan which the consultant says is clear. Following this I’ve had Sentinel Node Surgery and biopsy last week and am now waiting for the results to see if it has spread.
The wounds are bigger than I expected, seem to be healing OK, just really frustrating having to sit and wait.
All quite a shock as I was expecting the doctor to just prescribe some ointment and that would have been the end of the problem.
Hi. It’s all a bit of a shock. It seems most of us go down the sexual health clinic route. GPS really needs to improve at recognising penile cancer symptoms, mine was misdiagnosed for years and I was constantly prescribed different creams. I had the same treatment as you and am now three months clear. But, like you, I was pretty shocked at the time. Fingers crossed the biopsy is clear for you.
Hi, thanks for this, good to know that your clear, helps with the hope.
Hope and being positive will get you though this. The Professor looking after me reassured me throughout my treatment that this is fixable. I had glans resurfacing surgery and 3 months on you would never know I’ve had the procedure.
Saw the consultant on Wednesday, good news! The sentinel lymph nodes are clear of cancer, now I am booked in for some laser surgery on the remaining ulcer. From there it’s recovery and a follow up CT scan. Very relieved.
Yes, definitely relieved that it hasn’t spread, the consultant says it’s been caught early, perhaps a lesson for anyone, don’t delay going to get things looked at.
I am due for laser surgery on Thursday and am a bit apprehensive as this will be a local anaesthetic, the other two procedures have been general anaesthetic when I really didn’t know what was going on.
I can’t fault the treatment I’ve had from the NHS Urology at Leicester General Hospital.
I too was afraid of the local anaesthetic and didn’t feel a thing. They put it in the forskin and not the head.
Thanks, but, I was circumcised some years ago, can’t be any worse than the four injections in the base I had prior to the last op. Additionally I keep telling myself it won’t be as traumatic as the first cataract operation I had a couple of years ago, literally with my eye open.
Looking forward to the recovery and hopefully getting back to normal.
That is good news it has not spread and you are having quick treatment for what is there, I was seen quite quickly when first went to GP with mine, from GP to hospital to 1st operation was only a month but, unfortunaly mine had spread to lymph nodes on left side so had second operation within few weeks, then I was the rare case where my cancer returned 8 months later, and I am still fighting over 3 years later. Best luck for laser surgery and quick recovery.
Thanks, hopefully you’ll get some beneficial treatment, can’t be good having to continuously wait for treatment and then results, keep fighting.
