Hi and thanks in advance for any support or advice you can give me.

I’m a 55 year old mum of two gorgeous teenagers and a beautiful spaniel, married to a lovely man who lost his mum a few months ago.

Went to the GP 4 weeks ago after experiencing sharp stomach pains and a tiny bit of spotting (just for one day). I’d been bloated and gassy for a couple of months but just put it down to getting older. In fact, had started to walk the dog more strenuously to try and lost weight which is when I noticed the stomach pains. Gp found a lump and sent me for blood tests, ultrasound etc. CA125 came back as 129 and ultrasound showed giant mass 20cm with some concerning characteristics.

Can’t believe something that big has been growing without me knowing. Apart from heartburn and bloating I’ve been fine in myself - no bowel/bladder/energy problems. Of course, now I know about it I’ve felt physically more poorly every day

Husband and I decided not to tell the girls until we had a more concrete diagnosis and idea of treatment as both girls have had exams and shows to perform in. This has been so hard as we are beside ourselves with worry about the results and prognosis.

Had CT scan on Monday and expecting a phonecall to discuss results this evening. Not expecting any good news but not sure how much he will tell me over the phone at this stage? Is he likely to give me any definitive information or is it going to be ‘suspect cancer, won’t know until biopsy’? Whatever it is or isn’t I want this football out of me as soon as possible and am dreading the additional waiting fortnights..

Would really appreciate hearing of your experiences and also your thoughts about when and how much to tell the family at this stage (5 days before Christmas at the end of a very tough year Cry)

Thank you x

  • Can relate to your worry my wife has had problems eating and keeping food down since August she had seen 2 different doctors at her surgery who have not picked up on any problems dispute losing 3 st since September luckily a matron at the surgery arranged for a chest xray that come back clear a blot test which come back with a 1 point above the high reading on the CA125 and a FIT test showing up abnormal so they then arranged for a ultrasound on Monday filled by a Gynaecology appointment yesterday to be told she has a cyst the size of a orange on her ovary now waiting for a CT Scan appointment.

like you she wants it taken out asap it’s like a black cloud hanging over us and for days we have had very little sleep.

my main concern is because she can keep anything down inc liquid she’s getting weaker by the day it’s like this growth is sucking the life out of her and yet the doctors are doing nothing about this she needs her strength to fight this with everything she has.

I hope they get a treatment plan sorted out for you asap

  • Thank you for responding David and I’m sorry to hear you and your wife are also having such an awful worrying time. The stress of waiting won’t be helping her appetite or ability to keep food down either! I hope she gets some treatment soon and can start on the road to recovery x

  • Hi,

Ive just recently had an ultrasound after going to the doctor with some lower tummy pains. Originally they said I just had a UTI but as antibiotics were not responding they sent be for ultrasound to look for ossicle kidney stones.

5 days before Christmas my go sat me down and told me I had a mass measuring at 24 x 21 cm so I completely get you on the how did I not know/notice something so big growing inside of me!!
Thinking back I have had quite a bit of bloating, but I put it down to the usual time of the month, or I’d been eating a lot of rubbish food! Also I couldn’t lose weight, up until May I was steadily losing weight then it stopped & since then I’ve gone back up 25lbs, some probably is weight I’ve been less active but some I guess will be the mass that was growing so large. My CA125 levels were 42 so slightly elevated.

I have been referred to gynaecologist on an urgent 2 week referral, so I have that appointment on the 2nd Jan. it is very worrying, I struggled telling my family as we just lost my dad 3 months prior so last thing needed really. But they are very supportive and keeping my spirits up.

I hope your results come back with a positive outlook, I’m told most masses turn out to be benign and CA125 levels can be elevated for many reasons so I’m holding onto that hope while also trying to be prepared for the worst also. But like you I just want this football out of me! The pain I’d been experiencing is basically all my organs squished up to the other side, it’s becoming quite uncomfortable now day to day!
