Hi all, I am a newbie to the group, advised to join today by the help line... I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer Grade 1C back in 2018, full hysterectomy and 6 rounds of chemo. Then in 2020 I had a minor recurrence, caught before it had chance to do any big time damage, thanks to my fab Oncologist, another 6 rounds of chemo and in remission once again. I am now taking the Part Inhibitor Niraparib (Zejula) and have been doing really well on it for 20 months now. CA125 has been stable at 13 the whole time.
I was wondering if there is anyone else on Niraparib and if they have been allowed to fly while taking it? We're thinking of having our first holiday abroad since 2018, when doing research online there is a lot of talk about a Fit To Fly letter from your team, do I need to get one?
What was your experience with travelling? Did you have to do anything special for the flight? (I'm probably going to wear flight socks). Also, I would be very grateful if anyone has any recommendations for Travel Insurance Companies and what they had to provide them with?
Thanks in Advance
Hi LellP207 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I don't have any experience with niraparib but do have experience with travelling abroad and travel insurance.
I typed 'niraparib' into the group search bar and found these previous posts which mention it. You could have a look through some of them and reply to any of the more recent posters if you think they could help you further.
The best person to ask about whether you can travel while taking niraparib would be your consultant or CNS.
When applying for travel insurance make sure that you have all the information to hand about your diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of things an insurance provider might want to know when you're applying for insurance.
I can see that you've joined the travel insurance group and wondered if you'd had a chance to look through the 'recommended travel insurance' thread yet, as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. You might also want to look at this thread as it includes a link to a Travel Insurance Directory.
Most people recommend that it's best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.
Do come back and let us know how you get on
