Hi my name is Kerri and I’m 42 years old . joined just today after having my diagnosis last Thursday . I am stage 3 b low grade serous ovarian cancer . I had my surgery first and now waiting for appointment to see medical oncologist to see if I’m having chemo x

  • Hi  I’d like to offer you a warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community. I’m sorry to read about your diagnosis but you’ve come to the right place to talk to other people who have been or are in the same situation and help you get through this.

My cancer is different, but a cancer diagnosis of any kind makes us ask lots of questions, causes confusion, stress and probably emotions we’ve never experienced before.  As you've joined our Ovarian cancer I'm sure other members will be along soon and this will be a good place to connect with others making the same type of cancer journey.

I hope your surgery went well and you're healing well, come back and let us know how the Oncologist appointment goes.

It’s always helpful to others if you write a little something (or a lot) about yourself and your journey to date. You can enter it into your profile (click on your username and select “Profile”) It’s helpful to other members with a similar diagnosis who can then hopefully answer your questions. It also means that you don't have to keep writing the same thing over and over. You can amend or update it at any time.

To find more information covering diagnosis and treatments there are pages covering most types of cancers which can be found on our Online Information and Support Section

The Macmillan Support Services also offer lots of information, support, financial guidance or just someone to listen. It’s free to call 0808 808 0000. Most services are available 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two to three working days for replies from our expert team.

Sending you welcoming hugs B xx

    Hi Kerri

I hope all has gone OK. I'm just awaiting surgery and predict it to be stage 3 low grade from where it has spread.

Did you have full debulking surgery?

Any advise you can share would be great

    Hi,

No I'm awaiting surgery. They have not offered me chemo at this time as they say the low grate carcinoma cancer is unresponsive to chemo and surgery is the only option.

Yes I had full debulk . I had to have omentum and peritoneal removed . The peritoneal was attached to my bladder liver bowel and appendix . They removed the appendix and scraped the liver and bladder but had to remove part of my bowel so I ended up with a

How have you found the colostomy? Silly question really. It's likely that's what I'll end up with.

I'm so worried about the surgery and the unknown of how ill feel.

The colostomy took a bit of getting used to but now it doesn’t bother me at all . I used to be a carer so I’d dealt with stoma so I took it quite easily when it happened . But there nothing to worry about . Sometimes there not forever too , mine is because it was at the bottom of the bowel . The first week after surgery was difficult , but Christie’s were great with pain relief and support . It takes some time to get up and about but the more you do it the easier it gets . I needed a lot of help at home with being a single mum with an 8 year old so I had a Care package put in place to help me . 2-3 months later I’m pretty much back to normal x
