Hi!
Happy New Year everyone.
I am 47 years old and I have high grade OC stage 3C.
On the 28th of Nov I had a surgery and everything was successfully removed. Radical hysterectomy and Cytoreductive (no hipec) and they removed lesions from quite a few places. Surgery went well but had post op complications. A high output stoma that left me dehydrated and abdominal sepsis due to accumulation of fluid. I am so thin and since I was hospitalised for a month my muscles are a mess, I feel deflated and I’m recovering home so I can’t socialise, I’m still with the drain too. I have not been able to share this with anyone who has been through it. Can there be a happy ending to this? It feels lonely
thank you
Hi, I just wanted to say hi and I’m sorry you’re going through this tough recovery period- it’s so hard. I was like a little bird after my op and then 3 more rounds of chemo after the op- it’s amazing how our bodies recover! Keep trying to build your strength up- Complan shakes are good for topping up vitamins and just try to eat little and often with lots of protein.
Just to give you some hope- I was diagnosed age 40 in November 2012 with high grade OC stage 3C and I’m still here and cancer free 12 years on. I know how lucky I am and I’m always amazed and so appreciative, but I remember how terrifying it was when I was diagnosed and how it gave me so much hope when I came on here and saw a lady called Teresa, who posted that she was 7 years on from diagnosis. It’s reassuring that there are new treatments coming out all the time, so try to keep positive. Of course you’ll have bad days but I really think it helps to try and go for a walk on the days you feel stronger and to have things to look forward to.
You could contact the Macmillan nurses on this page and talk to them about loneliness- some of the forums like Ovarian Cancer Action and Target OC have online meditation classes where you can meet people who are going through the same thing.
Sending hugs and good wishes for a better 2025. Natalie xx
I had the full op like you back in June after 4 rounds of chemo. I came out of hospital on day 3 because I was so desperate to be out and a day after the 55 staples were removed fluid burst out of the bottom staple wound. It continued to leak for 5 months. I wish I’d had a drain! I’ve had 2 more lots of chemo & am now in remission. I found messaging friends & chatting on the phone & the optimism of others helped enormously, especially when I was too tired to actually see anyone in person. This forum helped me! I worked out my own exercise routine & had a walk each day. I’m an underweight diabetic so had lots of snacks like walnuts, hummus, peanut butter & cheese. It’s a tiring journey but crack on! One step at a time and you’ll get there! Can I send you good luck, strength and love! Xx
