Good afternoon all

I have my 1st gynaecology appointment tomorrow which now its tomorrow I'm feeling really anxious which i know is natural. The appointment is only 20 mins from what I've been told, what do they actuaBlushy go through? I'm assuming it's the next steps but my worry is that whatever they have lined up isn't going to be next day so more anxious waiting, any comments would be greatly appreciated. KeepingBlushusy today making my children a cake and a roast haha! Happy Sunday Blush

  • Hi

I had a different gynaecological cancer, but the first appointment for me was a discussion of symptoms, any cancer history in my family and then an internal examination. However, I would expect that yours will be a discussion about tests and results you have already had, and an outline of what will happen next-any further scans or tests needed for example.

Nothing happens immediately, so I’d imagine you would have to wait, for example if other scans are needed. It’s the most difficult time, being in this limbo, but it’s normal to have multiple diagnostic tests first to see exactly what’s going on. If you have other tests or scans, these results normally go to an MDT meeting (multi disciplinary team) where the different staff involved in your care decide what’s next.

Take a note of questions you’d like to ask, and an extra pair of ears in the form of a partner or friend is always useful. It’s amazing how much you can miss in an appointment if you’re anxious!

I hope things go well at your appointment and you’ll come back and let us know how you get on. Keeping busy is a very good distraction from the worry we all feel when waiting for things to happen.

  • Thank you Sarah, yes I've already had the internal ultrasound and blood tests, my mum is coming tomorrow...think she's more worried then I am!

I'll definitely update after tomorrow's appointment. I have written down a few questions and I intend to jot down what they say.

Keeping busy definitely helps, work is a good distraction xx

  • I went on my own to my appointment for results, because I wasn’t concerned, but learned my lesson to take my partner for every appointment thereafter! If there’s anything you’re not sure of, don’t be afraid to ask them to explain things further. I’ve done that on a few occasions, because sometimes there’s an assumption from doctors that we understand medical jargon and know what they’re talking about-not always the case!

Hope it all goes smoothly for you.

    Sarah xx
