Hello,
My auntie is currently having chemotherapy after her first recurrence of stage 3 ovarian cancer. She is responding well to chemotherapy and after this there is a possibility she will be put on a PARP inhibitor. I know this is targeted therapy but just wondered if this was a good thing that this is needed after chemotherapy. i just assumed that after chemotherapy, if she was NED, she would just carry on with her life and be hopeful that it’s a long time before another recurrence. Thank you
PARP inhibitors are drugs used to stop cancer repairing themselves, so the cancer cells die. Perhaps because your Aunt has had a recurrence her oncology team have prescribed this treatment to prevent another recurrence and prolong life.
Stage 3 ovarian cancer has a high percentage of returning again.
