I went to the Drs today and after talking about my symptoms, she did a pelvic examination and is sending me for a blood test (ovarian cancer). Now as I said in the title, it is very early and there is absolutely nothing but suspicion at the moment but I feel totally overwhelmed. I guess (like a lot of people) I am just worrying. I am 35 and I have 4 children at home so yeah, the worry feels immense at the moment. I haven't told anyone at home because to be honest, I don't really have anyone I can speak to about this. Part of me thinks I am overreacting? The other half is scared. Is there anyone else in this situation or have been?
Hi Niceheart, I’m sure most of us have been exactly where you are- your mind is racing and you’re so full of worry and fear. You’ve done the best thing by actually going to the doctor and getting checked out. Your doctor has also done the right thing by taking you seriously and sending you for a CA125 test. Many of us don’t get that far until after a few visits sadly. If you have bloating, weeing more, tummy pain or eating less, they are symptoms of ovarian cancer but also many other things, so try not to worry until you know more. You’re right to call it a journey and once you bravely take the first step, you can only keep moving forward, so try to take it one step at a time. It might help to contact a nurse on this Macmillan site as they’ll have so much experience of how you’re feeling and will probably suggest ways to cope. Just to give you some hope, I’m an ovarian cancer survivor of 12 years- I was diagnosed in Nov 2012 with Stage 3c at the age of 40. I had 6 rounds of chemo and surgery and I’m still here and cancer free. I remember feeling exactly as you do now. Treatments are being developed and improved all the time. Stay positive and I really hope that it’s not ovarian cancer but keep pushing for tests and answers until it’s ruled out. Sending big hugs xx
