A year ago, late Aug 2021 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer stage 4 grade a. I have had 8 sessions of chemo and major debulking surgery. I am now on a PARP inhibitor called Niraparib. I take 300mg a day. So far no real side effects although I do have my bloods done weekly to monitor me. I am interested to know others experience of this drug. Thankyou

  • Hi Blossom.

I have stage 3 Ovarian cancer and also had surgery and 6 sessions of chemo last year. I started niraparib about 10 weeks ago, bthe first month was fine but then I got a bug and just became completely exhausted. I took myself off it as my blood pressure started going really high and my consultant agreed that the tiredness was probably being magnified by the drug. I haven't felt well enough to go back on it (Seeing the consultant tomorrow) but I don't think I'll go back on it,bthe tiredness is really debilitating. (I'm back at work f/t) and had to take a week off last week coz I was stretched so thin. I hope the drug works for you and wish you well.

  • Hi Jax hope you’re feeling better now. Did you decide to go back on NIRAPARIB after speaking to consultant?

Following hysterectomy and bowel resection in August last year I was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer. After 6 rounds of chemo I started NIRAPARIB 200mg daily. First couple of weeks were grim but it eased up and I began to feel better. I developed high blood pressure as a side effect and was horribly sick for the week that I took Amlodopine. Although I discontinued Amlodopine I continue to feel nauseous and fatigued for long periods every day. I’ve been advised to take anti sickness tablets regularly and start a different blood pressure medication as well as a statin.

I want to give myself the best chance of living longer which is why I started NIRAPARIB but now I’m wondering if the side effects and need for all these extra drugs is worth it. I’d be really interested to hear what you’ve decided. Best wishes.

  • Hi, I too take Niraparib 200mg, for 6 months now, I was diagnosed oc stage 4b in November 2021, had chemo and op., I had no bad side effects other than not getting a great night's sleep. But lately I have noticed bruising for no apparent reason on legs also itchy, which I have been told is probably a side effect, hopefully it will go away a quick as it came.. bloods are ok... So hopefully they are doing what they are ment to do.  But I have that constant worry will the oc be back, ...
