just been told stage of my OC  which is 3c going on 4 , looks like it is very bad, affecting bowel spleen and bladder , . Pre op assessment today surgery hopefully at beginning of december, i could end up with 2 permanent bags ( least f my worries) , but they are going in to have a look first, to see if they can operate, if not it will give me only a few months to live, as you can imagine i am stressed to the max, feel like i am not only waiting for an operation, but also whether i live or die,

  • meant to add, has anyone experienced this and had a positive outcome?? waitig for a month plus is a nightmare, but i need 3 specialists in theatre op as there is alot to remove

  • Hi. What a very scary time for you. I just wanted to write and give you some hope, because I found it really helpful when I was diagnosed to see some positive stories. I was diagnosed with stage 3c in 2012, aged 40. I had 3 lots of chemo, which worked really well at completely shrinking the tumours, then surgery, then 3 more lots of chemo. Is that an option for you? Could you ask your oncologist? It made surgery much more straightforward. I also had to see a stoma nurse before surgery, just in case I needed one fitted during the op, but luckily I didn't. The last 3 lots of chemo were given as part of a clinical trial, and some of the chemo was given through a port directly into my abdomen. I'm very lucky to still be cancer-free 9 years on. I also have the faulty BRCA1 gene, which gives you a better response to chemo.

Waiting a month seems very, very difficult. Have you tried calling the Macmillan nurses on this site? You can speak to a nurse directly and ask them any questions and discuss all your concerns. I think it would be helpful as every person is different.

I'm sending you a big hug and every wish for a positive outcome- keep pushing for answers and advice.

  • thanks for positivity, did get back in touch with the mcmillan nurses, because i had such a lot to process and was unable to sleep, they want to operate first and then chemo, if all goes well, but as you say the wait is excucating, but i have just had an exersise programme sent through to help with the before and after operation, so hey ho going out for a brisk walk this afternoon

  • Enjoy your walk and try to keep busy- the waiting is the worst bit. x

  • Hi,, I just thought I'd let you know a lady I was in hospital with was the same stage as you. After she was diagnosed she went for an operation but they closed her straight back up saying there was too much cancer. She then had 3 cycles of chemo an operation the same time as me and the initial finding were they got all the cancer. I'm trying to say anything is still possible.

Also I have now learnt the Doctors don't sugar coat anything, always give you the worst case scenario.

Wishing you the best of luck.x

  • Thank-you so much for posting Natalie. It means so much hearing such a positive outcome.

Here's to the next 9 years. Slight smile

  • Thank you for the positivity, much appreciated

  • How are things with you? Wishing you a very Happy Christmas x

  • Very well Thank you. I've just had my latest blood results today and everything is fine.

Merry Christmas to you and everyone else.

To those not feeling too well take it easy and let others take the strain.

    Best Wishes every one.
