Switched to Taxol for metastatic ovarian cancer.

Mum had first dose of Taxol after having single dose of irinotecan. We had second opinion from another oncologist who suggested Taxol is proven to cause reduction in metastatic disease in ovarian cancer. Mum did not respond to carboplatin or caelyx ( liposomal Doxorubicin).

Any one with success stories of Taxol? What are the side effects?

Many Thanks

  • Hi Losh

I am sorry to hear of your Mum's cancer.

I had paclitaxel (taxol) along with carboplatin for my endometrial cancer in 2022. I am currently doing ok.

I found the main side effects were fatigue, tummy issues and some pain. I also lost some hair. I did have some other milder side effects but most were managed with medication. Mine was given in a 21 day cycle so 1 day in hospital and then 20 at home. Most side effects were in the first week after treatment, then I would feel gradually better until the next cycle. For the first week I just went with the flow and rested a lot. By the second week I felt more like doing things.

    This link has some info.

I hope Mum responds ok to the taxol and any side effects are manageable.
