I've had my meeting today following the results of the biopsy. The doctors are saying they will give me 3 courses of chemo and then surgery if possible followed by chemo again. Nothing certain plus a list of scary side effect from chemo. This all seems quite brutal at the moment and people are telling to remain positive and focus on healing.

  • Hi tabita

2 years ago that was me I had chemo 4 Christmas eve 21,laporoscopy March 21 to check my bowel in case of stoma being required, April 21 debulking including omentum bowel resection but no stoma. 2 more chemos. Lost my hair twice but I have remained positive throughout. Fast forward to this year finished avastin 6 weeks ago still having oliparib 300mgs daily, I have 5mm of possibly desease or scar tissue but so far so good. I walk at least 6000 steps a day with pickles my terrier, swim once a week, been to tenriffe, Wales so far, off to Norfolk, then a cruise and krakow in November. Being positive is not easy. I'm 68 and live alone. We can do this. My mantra is I control the cancer it doesn't control me. Keep moving forward.

  • Thank you for sharing your experience Foxygirl,

Positive mind is definitely the right attitude and it is good to see your outcome. It all seems overwhelming at the moment. Taking it step by step seems to be the way forward as even the doctors can provide all the answers.

    Best wishes

  • I have only just joined this group and am most interested  to know how you got on with Avastin Tabita.  I had grade 3c ovarian cancer diagnosed on 23 December last year. Good timing!  A large tumour on one ovary and the cancer spread within my abdomen. I had 3 rounds of chemo but only one of Avastin as my blood pressure went  sky high but this now under control. I then had debalking surgery which was successful with no stoma and due my 6th cycle of chemo with Avastin next week. I have been fortunate in not having too much pain until the last cycle which resulted in neuropathy through my whole body. Did you suffer with this at all?  I’m wondering If this will be as bad when I’m just on Avastin.

  • I feel so lucky I had minimal side effects,or I just ignored them? I did have some neuropathy in my feet, tiredness, some nausea. I feel better for not having the avastin, still taking 300mg oliparib daily. Just sitting waiting for my appointment to see if my ca125 remain stable. We can do this.

  • I'm starting chemo tomorrow! I'll be on carboplatin/paclitaxel but have already been given a long list of potential side effects. You are much further ahead with your treatment. No one mentioned Avastin to me, I don't know why? I'll report back  due course. BW T

  • Sorry, got you mixed up with Foxygirl!  We all react differently and I consider myself fortunate that I haven’t suffered too badly   Emotionally I think the worst was losing my hair. You can’t see the cancer but when you look in the mirror and see the hair falling out it really is quite upsetting. On the bright side I have two lovely wigs in a style I’ve always wanted but never achieved!  Best of luck with your chemo and stay upbeat and positive

  • Hi all I had my surgery 14th February last year debulking of total hysterectomy omentum removal along with diaphragm peritoneal and partial liver. 6 months of chemo and 12 months of Avastin only 2 more Avastin to go. It's a long journey  we go on but the most important thing is to keep positive, it is hard at times but before you know it your at the end of the treatment, I have been really lucky as I had very little side effects from chemo only a sore mouth and a few boney pains after having the pregastin injection 24 hours after chemo treatment which affected my heels and shins with pain but disappeared after a day,the Avastin caused me to have high blood pressure so on blood pressure tablets now and shortness of breath but not all the time and slight numbness in toes and fingertips. All things considered im doing good and count my blessing each day I'm alive,I cried yesterday as I was 70 years old and happy I'd reached this milestone. So ladies keep on being positive and as foxygirl said I control the cancer not it controlling me.

  • How did you get on with the Avastin?  Any nasty side effects. I finish chemo tomorrow then Avastin for twelve months

  • Minimal side effects, the usual tired, achey but I also have arthritis. The main thing is it worked. You have to go for the best you can get. Don't forget you control the cancer it doesn't control us.

  • Thank you so much. All the very best
