Laparotomy to remove ovaries

Hi everyone, I am having surgery (laparotomy) next week to remove my ovaries. I have a small mass on one of them which may or may not be cancer. I've been told they will do a 'frozen section' during the surgery to find out if it's cancer and if it is they will do further biopsies of my lymph nodes and belly fat. Anyone else been through the same who can give me an idea what to expect? I live on my own so I'm wondering how I am going to manage when I come out of hospital.

  • That sounds positive. How have you been finding the chemo?

  • Morning, how are you feeling today? Has the doctor said any more?

I didn't get any further information. I called the hospital and am still waiting for a call back. Pensive

I just want to know what I'm dealing with. Rolling eyes

  • I've spoken to the hospital again today. My MRI was written up this morning and is in the hands of the consultant who has been called to surgery. Hopefully I will find out what the mri shows soon.

I hope you are doing OK and have been allowed home. Xx

  • Hi, sorry I missed this. Have you heard anything more? I got home on Sunday and have been trying to rest and recover without thinking too much about what might happen. Easier said than done! X

  • I'm so pleased you are home. Have you got any appointments yet to discuss your treatment plans? I hope you are starting to feel better, take 1 day at a time, you can do this xx

I was promised a call back yesterday afternoon from the consultant but I didn't get a call. I'm mentally exhausted calling every day and being promised calls and not getting them. So I still don't know the results despite them knowing how worried I am and that I had breast cancer last year. I'm just going to wait until my appointment next week.

  • Sorry to hear that, that must be so frustrating and exhausting for you. They are going to call me once the results of my biopsies are in, I’ve been told either Tuesday next week or the week after. So will just have to wait. When is your appointment?

  • It's so exhausting. They are so lovely when I call but just let me down each time.

Fingers crossed you get your results next Tuesday.

My appointment is next Thursday so 1 more week to wait.

  • Hi, have you heard anything yet? I just found out that my cancer is a stage 2a. My left ovary was stuck to some endometriosis in my pelvic wall and there were some cancer cells in this area. All other biopsies clear though, so it’s a very local spread and they got it all out. My consultant says my prognosis is the same as someone with stage 1c, and that the stage 2a diagnosis is a technicality. Next step is chemotherapy.

  • Hi, good to hear from you. That all sounds very positive. Great news that the spread is local and they got it all out. Any idea when you will start chemo? How is your scar and surgery site?

I've not heard any more. I'm just waiting til Thursday to see a consultant. Hopefully I will know more after that appointment.

  • Hi, thanks for the encouragement. I’ve been feeling quite down about it all today but I know it could have been a lot worse so it’s good to be reminded of the positives. I’m due to have an appointment with an oncologist in 2-3 weeks time and then will start chemo about 10 days after. Surgery recovery is going ok, the wound is healing well. Will be thinking of you on Thursday, please let me know how it goes x
