Hi everyone, I am having surgery (laparotomy) next week to remove my ovaries. I have a small mass on one of them which may or may not be cancer. I've been told they will do a 'frozen section' during the surgery to find out if it's cancer and if it is they will do further biopsies of my lymph nodes and belly fat. Anyone else been through the same who can give me an idea what to expect? I live on my own so I'm wondering how I am going to manage when I come out of hospital.

  • I called the hospital today but still no results. They are chasing radiology and I can call for an update Friday. Part of me doesn't want to know incase its bad news but part of me wants to know so I can move forwards. Xx

  • I know exactly how you feel. I hope you get good news.

I had my surgery yesterday and was told just after I woke up from the anaesthetic that it is indeed cancer but I don’t remember anything else that the Dr told me so waiting for him to come on his morning round to explain and tell me more. I have a massive incision from my bikini line well past my belly button so it seems they have been doing a lot in there.

    • Oh bless you. I'm glad the op is over but sorry its cancer. I hope you have a good meeting with your Dr and its positive news. Please keep me updated. Sending you gentle hugs xx
  • Thank you. He’s just been round and said he *thinks* it is stage 1 but we won’t know until results come back from biopsies. So another two week wait. But it looks like I’ll need chemo in any case… sending you a hug back xx

    • Oh that's cautiously positive. Shame about needing chemo but good that hopefully it's early stages. You can try to relax and recover now. How long do you have to stay in for? Xx
  • They’ve said about four days. Not much I can do right now other than try to relax and recover.  Keep me posted if you get any news tomorrow x

  • Just seen the doctor again. Apparently I have endometrioid ovarian cancer. He was again saying that he thinks it’s early stage but it’s a waiting game…

  • Morning, that's interesting, did he say how it differs to ovarian cancer? Good news that he's still thinking stage 1.

    How are you feeling today?

  • It is a type of ovarian cancer where the cells are similar to endometrial cells, apparently, but he said it doesn’t make much difference in terms of treatment. Feeling tired but ok, I don’t think it has quite sunk in yet.

  • Hello I was diagnosed with endometrial  cancer also ovarian cancer after a complete hysterectomy including appendix I was told would just need 6 doses of  carboplatin everything should be OK.now on my fifth.

Good luck and lots of hugs
