Hello,

Can you please help me. My sister, 37yo had ovarian cancer and operation early in January. Finished 6 rounds of taxol and carboplatine. During and right after chemo, ca-125 was 4, but now, 25 days later is 14 ( in different laboratory but still..). It was routine check up before starting olaparib.
Is this very concerning and meaninc reoccurence or that therapy didnt work? Please tell me if you know someone and is this post chemo response?

Thank you

  • Hi Inab

I can understand your concern for your sister.

However CA125 can raise and lower for different reasons.

Any level under 35 is considered normal and your sister is within the normal range. So your sister has had a slight increase but still has a normal level. Perhaps get her to speak to her CNS who may be able to reassure her.

I know my levels changed regularly during my chemo for endometrial cancer and I had the same chemo as your sister.

I wish your sister well with her olaparib treatment.

    Jane

  • Thank you for your answer.

its not common to fluctuate like this because it was stable during every check while having chemotherapy. This was a routine check to see where is she before starting olaparib.

this jump from 4 to 14 made us anxious because im wondering if something is already growing in just 25 days, rapidly withouth any therapy. They removed many organs ao i dont think it is something else to rise ca levels.

doctor just said in 4 weeks check up but living like this for prolonged period is barely managable. Thank you
