Hi Everyone,
I am recieving Bevacizumab as maitenance after surgery and 5 rounds of Paclitaxel and Carboplatin (3 of which Bevacizumab were included with this chemo), My joint pain has been awful
Knee's, elbows, shins, feet, hips and shoulders. Does anyone have any advice/safe remadies that they can suggest to help? My left knee already had arthiritis before my diagnosis but is becoming worse. I am taking the usual paracetamol, ibruprophen and Preagablin for another injury in my neck.
Hi shellyp
I'm sorry to hear how much pain and discomfort you're in.
Whilst I don't have any personal experience to call on I noticed that your post hadn't had any response yet. By replying to you it will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussions list where it'll be more easily spotted.
Whilst your waiting for replies you could pop your question in the ask a nurse section of the online community and one of the specialist nurses will aim to respond within 2 working days. I presume that you have spoken to your CNS and she hasn't been able to suggest anything.
I hope you get on top of this pain soon.

Hi Shelly, hope you are ok-ish , I am 3 weeks into Olaparib maintenance and have been getting a stitch like pain on my right side around my ribs back and front, I told my Doc but he wasn’t too worried cos he said the drugs take a while to settle, he said my bloods are ok, and if there was a problem they would be all over the place! He has booked me for a bone scan as a precaution, which is good because like you I have dreadful problems with my knees, think they are 30 years older than the rest of me! I find once I am up and washed, I am ok, but in the evening all the aches start. I did read that these parp inhibitors take 3 months to settle, there is a Facebook page for parp inhibitors, lots of ladies are from America and Canada but we all have the same issues!’ Have a good Monday, so fed up With this situation, I had gone back to work for a few hours and now back on furlough!
take care and stay safe
love and virtual hugs
xx

I don’t have any real advice or remedies but wanted to say you’re not alone. I had my 13th Avastin treatment last week, and I’ve been getting more and more achy since I started on it in April last year. Doing gentle exercise seems to help a bit, but the effects don’t last if I stop exercising for too long.
Hi Shellyp, I'm not sure I can help, but if there's any comfort in company .... I'm also on Avastin/Bevacizumab on 3-weekly maintenance, following 6 cycles of chemo, debulking surgery, and a further 2 cycles of chemo. I am suffering too from terrible joint and general all-over pain. as you say : knees, shins, feet, elbows, wrists .... turning over in bed is a nightmare! General advice seems to be exactly what you're doing already : paracetemol etc - it doesn't really help me either. My worst pain is in the heel of my right foot - it's like it's bruised, so each step is agony and it keeps me awake at night throbbing. I've just read somewhere that an epsom salts bath could be helpful, so am going to try that!
I'm also unsure how much is the Avastin, and how much is a hangover from the chemo - apparently the steroids can cause weakness and pain in the back of the the thighs, which is an area I definitely suffer too. I'm hoping that this will start to wear off as I move further away from my last chemo (september).
So sorry I can't help, but will be watching this thread in the hope that someone has better advice for us!
Stay safe x
