Hi! I’m stage IV OC, just finished 6 cycles of chemo, and scheduled for my debulking surgery in a fortnight.
I’m obviously apprehensive and would be interested to hear from anyone who has been through this - how was it? How was recovery?Longer term side effects? And any tips for what to take into hospital? Due to Covid I won’t be allowed visitors so need to go in fully prepared!
Hi.I was exactly the same. Six chemo's and then operation. I was in a complete mess about the surgery, but hand on heart, I was pleasantly surprised. Had my surgery on Monday 8th June, came home on Thursday 11th June. I have my staples taken out tomorrow by the district nurse. The epidural was a complete bonus and when it came out two days later, I was fine with paracetemol and the occasionally oramorph when moving. Having no visitors was not a problem, just take your phone/ipad and pay for the television. i got really friendly with the other two ladies in the ward, so my stay was great. A big thank you to all the staff at Poole.
Hi Jan,
How are you getting on now? I hope having the staples out wasn’t too uncomfortable - I just had soluble sutures and glue so I haven’t needed any further attention. Things seem to be mending quite well and I walked myself to the GP surgery and back yesterday for a blood test. All being well I should chemo 5 this Friday, which will be 4 weeks from the op. Wearing the compression stockings is becoming increasingly unpleasant during this lovely weather but only two more days of those and the daltaparin injections. My tummy is feeling like a pin cushion!
I do hope that your pain is easing and movement is becoming more comfortable with each day, and that you’ve got plenty of help at home.
Best wishes, Nell xxx
Hello! I really hope you’re recovering well.
I was just wondering if you could shed some light. We’ve been told surgery is usually an option after 3 chemos, but you had 6 then surgery? Did it take a little longer to shrink the cancer before surgery?
thanks so much x
