Last year I had bowel cancer and op and chemo but that's not why I am here.  My daughter has recently been diagnosed with non hodgkins Lymphoma - Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL).  It's not my story to tell.  I can only support her and her family.  She is very positive. Me, I posted here on the bowel cancer board.   She is currently on her 2nd chemo cycle and ended up in hospital with sepsis during the first cycle.

Positive vibes to all

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am sorry to see you joining us and to hear about your daughter.

I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.

I don’t have Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) (But ALCL is a type of T-Cell NHK) and for some context I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare (8 in a million) incurable but treatable type of Cutaneous T-Cell NHL (a type of slow growing Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) ……. eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 when a second, also rare (4 in a million) type of aggressive Peripheral T-Cell - Not Otherwise Specified NHL (a type of fast growing High-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) was then presenting so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I most definitely appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

Navigating a Lymphoma journey is rather different from your Bowel Cancer journey.

You may want to check out Lymphoma Action. Lymphoma Action is the main UK Lymphoma Specific Charity who have lots of good reliable information, videos..... basically all things Lymphoma....... pre, during and post treatment.

They run regular Support Platforms both for patients..... I highly recommend these groups as there is nothing better than talking with other who have walked the journey…… both for you and your daughter.

They also have a great Lymphoma Action Buddy Service where people can be linked up with someone who has walked the same treatment journey.

Lymphoma Action have a Lymphoma helpline on 0808 808 5555 open every week day from 10 till 3. This is a safe place to talk this through and get support.

    Always around to chat.

  • Thanks, she has found the lymphoma action group but I will mention the action buddy service to her. She does not do things by halves as it is a rare form of non hodgkins Lymphoma She has! She has a very good network of friends as she works at the hospital and her sister is just going into 3rd year nurse training.  Her consultant is brill as he looked after my late husband who had myeloma.

We could have done without it but we have this!

I'm so sorry if there's been any confusion caused, we've had some trouble getting in touch with you to share some information.

Please would you email the team here at community@macmillan.org.uk from the email address connected to your Macmillan accounts so we can get back in touch?

    Many thanks
