Has anybody had lymphoma possibly caused by the pylori bacteria?
Hi and welcome to our little corner of the Community. I see you have been posting in Stomach Cancer Group as well.
Helicobacter pylori can indeed cause various types of cancers including Lymphomas but over the years I have been on the community I have yet to hear anyone actually confirm that they had been told that Helicobacter Pylori was the reason for their lymphoma.
I actually had bad Helicobacter Pylori during my 3rd cycle of chemo but the 3 pack string antibiotics put it back to sleep. My consultant explained that everyone have the HP bacteria in their body but a normal health immune system keeps it under control.
hi Mike thanks for your reply. l was indeed on the stomach forum l have since had an endoscomy which was all clear and biopsy taken for pylori. I'm specifically asking about connections with pylori and lymphoma because until l get results back I'm keeping an open mind. my consultant first thought GERD or hiatus hernia for my constant dyspepsia but both ruled out. l do have a weak immune system as l have sjogrens and lupus. both autoimmune. the night sweats are constant and stomach pain is awful at times plus weight loss. lm due to have CT scan any day now and results of pylori should be in a weeks time. I'm 70.
Hi again, oh the body is a complicated machine and investigations can be long and time consuming.
The information in the Cancer Research UK information suggests that 3 in 100 NHLs are related to HP but as I said, I have volunteered on this platform for years and on another Lymphoma support platform for a few years and I have yet to hear this actually confirmed.
It may not be seen as an important line of testing but as always, are there other ways of catching Lymphoma early?
The majority of people who get diagnosed will only find out after a scan and biopsy....... with little clue in blood tests, crazy as it is a blood cancer
I also have a hiatus hernia due to the extreme sickness I experienced due to one of my chemo drugs, that was in Oct 2015.... it does not present in any way that is a physical problem although I do take daily meds for the dyspepsia... “Mike we won’t touch this unless we have to do so” is what my team say as it’s not worth putting my permanently reduced immune system under any undue pressure.
Sjogrens and lupus are recognised as steppingstone that ‘could’ lead to Lymphoma but I do use the word ‘could’.
A CT scan will give another ‘view’ and let’s look for you to get answers soon.
Blood cancers can at times be very difficult to diagnose with some folks living years not knowing that actually had cancer.
If you want a good reliable source for Lymphoma information do check out Lymphoma Action, a small UK Lymphoma Specific Charity who have lots of information and videos.
Always around to help as best as I can.
Thanks Mike l will let you know when l get the results of the pylori test.
