I've been reading this forum for weeks unsure whether or not to post my story but Im starting to worry and I really don't want to search Google. I'm a 27 year old female ex smoker quit last year due to falling pregnant. So I've had a painless swollen lymph node below my jaw for about a year and a half didn't really think anything of it for the past 2 years I've been suffering from my right ear blocking that last for weeks then pops and all is well but this time round it started leaking fluid so decided to go to the doctors was prescribed 3 different types of antibiotics none helped at all so was then given antibiotic ear drops they seems to clear the discharge but my ear still feels slightly blocked and I'm suffering tinnitus in the ear. I've now noticed the lymph node has gotten bigger no pain and obviously hasn't went away I have another one on the same side of neck but just above the collarbone and 3 more on the left side. I've also been getting facial numbness and tingling on the right side of my face. This has been ongoing for 8 weeks since my first doctors appointment about the ear discharge. I've noticed I have 3 swollen lymph nodes on my groin I've lost a lot of weight but put it down to having my baby 6 months ago and just assumed it was baby weight I was losing I have no appetite and don't feel hungry. I'm exhausted all the time but I put it down to having 2 kids but both my kids sleep all night so I'm getting my full 8 hours I could literally sleep all day if I had the chance I've never been this tired. Now the bottom of my back is really sore and I feel asif I'm getting nerve pain around my vulva, thighs and buttocks. I've started getting cramps that feel like period cramps in my abdomen near the bottom. My left knee has started flaring up and becoming painful for no reason every 3 weeks or so started about 4 months ago and the pain travels down my calf and up my thigh. I get really hot at night not to the point I'm soaking but I do seem to sweat a lot more than usual. The bone in my left arm starts to ache every now and again it's hard to explain the pain it's like cramping but I can feel it in my bone. I've had my bloods taken results should be back possibly Tuesday and I've been referred to ENT just waiting on my appointment coming through. I don't know who to talk to about this my partner thinks I'm being silly and over reacting but I'm just really worried its cancer. My family aren't very supportive either their not exactly the most supportive. Am I over reacting? has anyone else suffered similar symptoms and it being cancer or something else that's serious. I know no one can say it's definetly cancer I just need some advice I have 2 kids and I'm scared.

Thanks for listening.

    Back again.

Forgot to mention I've been getting pain in my left collar bone with more swollen lymph nodes. Doctor has referred me for an urgent chest x Ray which I have tomorrow at 4 o'clock. Can chest x rays pick up lymphoma if that's what it is? He also took more bloods and I've to go back and see him next week to decide on where we go from there. I'm not as scared as I was before I'm just wanting answers and to feel better I'm scunnered. Will let you know my results. Do you know roughly how long it takes for results to come back? Hopefully it's not too long a wait.

    Regards.

  • A chest x-ray can show various things and help to rule out some types of conditions but will not clearly show Lymphoma areas as this normally needs a CT or PET Scan.

Blood results? It depends on where your GP is based in relation to where these bloods are put to to go through the lab........ I would think it will take a few days to come back so phone the surgery near the end of the week as most surgeries have time slots for giving out results.

  • I started off with a chest xray which showed something was there. But they couldn't say it was lymphoma until they had done a biopsy. If they see something on the xray you should hear very quickly. If it's negative it will take longer as they won't rush to send the report to the GP. Good luck and do let us know what happens.

My chest x ray has come back clear. My doctor has referred me to a hematologist my appointment iis on the 31st of this month. My tiredness is getting worse I slept 14 hours last night got up for 2 hSleepingrs today had to go back to bed and that's me just awake Sleeping. The sooner they get to the bottom of this the better.

Will update after seeing ENT next week.

  • You are making progress - yes slow, but good you are now seeing a Haematologist in a few weeks ((hugs))

  • Hello Xlaura27,

I am sorry you are having to put up with such uncomfortable symptoms and all this anxiety!  As a mum, you've got limited time and energy for this hassle, so I am glad to note that your GP sounds helpful.  I'd certainly keep her/him up to date with the troublesome symptoms and changes and press for a diagnosis.  This'll help push the investigations on and find out what's causing your symptoms.

Your story sounds a bit like me just over a year ago.  I too went round the houses trying to get a diagnosis - first the dental hospital, then ENT, then orthopaedics and finally, haematology.   I had a number of scans, blood tests (all normal), ultrasounds and one neck lump biopsy, which was accidentally damaged and so didn't give a result.  Reading around the research, it seems it's not unusual for folk with suspected lymphoma to go through a long wait for results.  Mine took 6 months, but I guess from the fact that you're on this forum that you & your doc think you might possibly have lymphoma.

I had chemo from March to late summer.  It was tiring, but I'm disease free & feel fine now.  You do need to look after your general health.   When I simply couldn't face food, I was prescribed some of those milky drink supplements.  They're awfully sweet, but it's a quick fix to help stop rapid weight loss if it's making you feel worse.

Hope you get things sorted out and some solutions soon!
