I've been reading this forum for weeks unsure whether or not to post my story but Im starting to worry and I really don't want to search Google. I'm a 27 year old female ex smoker quit last year due to falling pregnant. So I've had a painless swollen lymph node below my jaw for about a year and a half didn't really think anything of it for the past 2 years I've been suffering from my right ear blocking that last for weeks then pops and all is well but this time round it started leaking fluid so decided to go to the doctors was prescribed 3 different types of antibiotics none helped at all so was then given antibiotic ear drops they seems to clear the discharge but my ear still feels slightly blocked and I'm suffering tinnitus in the ear. I've now noticed the lymph node has gotten bigger no pain and obviously hasn't went away I have another one on the same side of neck but just above the collarbone and 3 more on the left side. I've also been getting facial numbness and tingling on the right side of my face. This has been ongoing for 8 weeks since my first doctors appointment about the ear discharge. I've noticed I have 3 swollen lymph nodes on my groin I've lost a lot of weight but put it down to having my baby 6 months ago and just assumed it was baby weight I was losing I have no appetite and don't feel hungry. I'm exhausted all the time but I put it down to having 2 kids but both my kids sleep all night so I'm getting my full 8 hours I could literally sleep all day if I had the chance I've never been this tired. Now the bottom of my back is really sore and I feel asif I'm getting nerve pain around my vulva, thighs and buttocks. I've started getting cramps that feel like period cramps in my abdomen near the bottom. My left knee has started flaring up and becoming painful for no reason every 3 weeks or so started about 4 months ago and the pain travels down my calf and up my thigh. I get really hot at night not to the point I'm soaking but I do seem to sweat a lot more than usual. The bone in my left arm starts to ache every now and again it's hard to explain the pain it's like cramping but I can feel it in my bone. I've had my bloods taken results should be back possibly Tuesday and I've been referred to ENT just waiting on my appointment coming through. I don't know who to talk to about this my partner thinks I'm being silly and over reacting but I'm just really worried its cancer. My family aren't very supportive either their not exactly the most supportive. Am I over reacting? has anyone else suffered similar symptoms and it being cancer or something else that's serious. I know no one can say it's definetly cancer I just need some advice I have 2 kids and I'm scared.

Thanks for listening.

Ps. Had a follow up appointment after my antibiotics and there's nothing wrong

  • Hi Laura,

Some great advise coming your way.

Unfortunately, for some folks it’s all about persistence and getting your pointy elbows into the medical system’s doors.

I was very fortunate in that I had a very good relationship with my GP and he was a positive advocate for me to get referrals.

The thing that confuses me is that folks like yourself, with lots of health issues can struggle to get answers when I only had a small rash and got a referral, yes it did take a further 12 months for the pathology to find the answers and get to the bottom of the problem to get a clear diagnosis.

Keep pushing those doors Laura ((hugs))

    Thank you.

I'm quite baffled myself to be honest they keep taking my age into consideration and that I have 2 kids blah blah.  Im so angry and I feel let down by my gp surgery.  I feel totally neglected I've asked for a referral even for piece of mind but nope not concerned enough to refer me.  Are they gonna wait til I'm seriously ill to finally be concerned enough?

I'm happy that your gp was on the ball in referalls etc... If I got the top gp in my practice I reckon I would have been referred months ago but he is always fully booked couldn't get an appointment with him until mid December and that was in September.

  • So have you actually got a December appointment with the top GP in your practice?...... I would be calling your practice regularly to see if there are any cancellations x

  • Hi Laura,

apologies for jumping in here, but I’ve read your story and am sorry as it feels as if you’re being let down by the system. Lymphoma is the most common cancer in young people (if Lymphoma it should turn out to be) so I think if I were you, I’d be phoning the ENT consultants secretary, or your GP surgery secretary and saying you are getting worse all the time and before long may well simply need to go to A&E.

my daughter (aged 26 when diagnosed, you can see my profile by clicking on my name, for more info) took around 2 months, first changing her GP, to get her diagnosis as she needed tests by ENT first before they removed a node as day surgery (my idea as it only needed a short anaesthetic) and 2 weeks after that we had the diagnosis. It did take a further few weeks to see the haematology specialist, then treatment began quite fast.

    hugs xxx

  • I so understand hun. It is so hard. I think while we have so many symptoms that makes us so tired for such a long time and so many gp visits that say that we are perfectly healthy our family starts to think the same. My husband got fed up with me too. He started work later after dropping kids of at school  came home earlier to do them dinner,  doing the dishwasher and the laundry. But there i was, still moaning about that i needed even more help. I couldnt even wash my own hair. It is difficult for them too to be fair. They don't know how to make you feel better. I felt misunderstood and thought i was depressed. When he heard it was Lymphoma he felt so bad. Worse then i did. I felt relieved. They finally believed me.

Good luck tomorrow! We will be thinking of you.

Diagnosed in may 2018 with Primary Mastetic Large B-Cell Non hodgkins Lymphoma. In remission since November 2018.

    Hi everyone.

Sorry I've not been on in a while had a lot going on.

So I've finally got an appointment with the ENT specialist for the 18th of December thank god.

I had my routine check up with my dentist and I mentioned my nodes which she seemed quite concerned about she wants me to go back to my doctors which I have an appointment today with and she said if they don't refer me for a scan she'll refer when I next see her on Thursday.  I'm so relieved that the ball is finally rolling and hopefully I can finally get answers. All above symptoms are still her nodes are growing and seem to be pushing on my mastoid muscles. Pain in back of my next is still here and seem to get worse at night. But I'm happy to finally be taken serious. I'll update yous all with results. Thanks everyone for all your advice it's much appreciated.

    Laura.

  • Hi Laura, good that progress is being made and let’s see this move quickly and get to the bottom of this.

18th December....... this just makes me think back to my 14 years of 4 monthly clinic appointments with my Dermatologist......... he always had me in on the last clinic day before the Christmas holidays...... he was a very clever man but a touch of a ‘humbug humbug’ type at the same time as he would always complain about the hospital clinics being ‘forcefully’ closed and he ‘had’ to take some of his leave Joy

    Keep in contact.

    Fingers crossed.

It's one less worry especially with Christmas just around the corner so I'm very happy.

    Hope you're well.

    And thanks for everything.

I will certainly be back with all the results and probably more advice.

    Laura.

    Back again.

Forgot to mention I've been getting pain in my left collar bone with more swollen lymph nodes. Doctor has referred me for an urgent chest x Ray which I have tomorrow at 4 o'clock. Can chest x rays pick up lymphoma if that's what it is? He also took more bloods and I've to go back and see him next week to decide on where we go from there. I'm not as scared as I was before I'm just wanting answers and to feel better I'm scunnered. Will let you know my results. Do you know roughly how long it takes for results to come back? Hopefully it's not too long a wait.

    Regards.
