Hi all, my consultant was originally going to give me 4 treatments of rituximab. I have low-grade gastric malt lymphoma that came from h pylori.
As all my blood tests are fine and I have zero symptoms (have had antibiotics to clear the h pylori and recently had 2 treatments of dexamethasone, which is grim).
He has now changed his mind and is requesting a bone marrow biopsy, a further CT scan (the one in October should show nothing in my lymph nodes or anything anywhere else) and possibly just 2 treatments instead of the 4 originally planned.
My question is, how is the bone marrow biopsy? Stopped googling lol.
Hi Treesjm good to hear from you.
I have had many many BMBs over my 26+ years.
From my prospective I still think of going through dental treatment to be far far more challenging than having a BMB.
A small sting when the area is numbed and some pushing as they get the sample….. all done in about 15-20mins depending on the person doing it.
If you are anxious about having the BMB, you can ask for a method of mild sedation to help you relax…… you should be offered this beforehand - if not do ask.
I never took any sedation, just had a cup of coffee after I had it done….. then drove home….. a number of times I drove home to Inverness from Glasgow….. 3.5hrs
I had one challenging BMB but this was due to me volunteering for someone in training to do it - yes I know!!!!…… but even then it was ok.
This the bone marrow biopsy information on the Lymphoma Action website.
