Hi.
In May I had radiotherapy for Non-Hodgkinson Lyphoma in my upper chest / kneck area. Unfortunately it destroyed my saliva glands, and negatively affected my tastebuds, and left me with a costant dry mouth.
For the past 25 weeks I have not been able to eat any solid food, including pureed food. I also can only drink a handful of cold drinks, and not hot drinks, so I tend to stick to water. I extist on two Complan milk drinks a day, and perhaps a Fortisip drink. I don't like them, but appreciate that they are probably keeping me alive.
Not being able to eat is a living hell. Their are adverts for food everywhere, especially Christmas TV adverts, but eating round a table is nearly always included in a drama. If I had known that this would be a permanant side effect of the treatment, I may well of refused it.
Is their anyone else who is living with the same problem, and have you found anyway of improvinng the situation a little?
Cheers.

Hi PubSpy151f03 and welcome to this corner of the community.
Sorry to hear about the post radiotherapy challenges you are left with.
I had a total of 45 radiotherapy zaps between late 2013 and late 2015….. these were directed at different areas of my body.
I do have some long lasting side effects but not affecting my mouth……. I am now 10 years out from my second Transplant as the treatments I had for my second Allograft Stem Cell Transplant basically stripped the lining of my stomach….. so I lived on small cups of good home made liquidated soups for 4 months….. I hated Complan and Fortisip drinks.
I am still on meds to control the damage to my stomach but also the massive Hiatus Hernia…… that actually fully encloses around my stomach and pancreas gland.
Hi Highlander.
Thank you very much for your reply, it is very much apreciated.
I have also had quite a few doses of radiation and chemotherapy overy the past three years.
Friends have kindly made me homemade soups, and have liquidated them. But unfortunately they were still to thick for me to manage.
I have tried various cup-of-soups, with them run through a strainer so that all the vegetables can be extracted (given to the birds). I did manage to drink one or two, and the tomato one.
I'm sorry to hear about your cancer, and the amount of radiotherapy you have had. I can only hope that they can keep managing it for you.
All the best.

Hi Alan…… you are definitely having a hard time. Can you not have a feeding tube put in?
As I said I am 10 years out from my last treatments…… and actually discharged from seeing my various teams.
Due to me having to be treated for my 2 rare T-Cell NHLs at the same time my main treatment journey between late 2013 to late 2015 was rather complicated (See my story) but I turn 70 in a few days and getting on with life.
Hi Mike (Thehighlander)
Thankyou very much for the further reply.
I have just had three weeks in hospital, and I discussed a feeding tube with a doctor. Unfortunately, he said I was unsuitable for a short term, or longer term feeding tube.
Pleased to hear that you are getting on with life, which is certainly the right attitude. I have been told that I only have a few weeks to live, and will certainly try and do the same.
Cheers.
