Husband had NhL last year had radio in November - they also discovered prostate cancer  gleason 4&3 when scanned- had radiotherapy in April -now on 3 monthly bloods no other treatment. He has a skin issue in private parts Gp just prescribed antibiotics but had no effect!
Will try see Gp again but should we be worried?? Was told originally to keep eye on skin any new lesions etc He is very tired and hot at night but hard to tell if thats just post treatment issues!  advice welcome

  • Hi again  looking back at your old posts you say that your husband has one of the various types of T-Cell NHLs…….

Is it actually one of the few types of Skin (Cutaneous) T-Cell Lymphoma he has?

I have lived with my Mycosis Fungodes for over 25 years so if it is similar then these challenges are unfortunately normal…… I also had skin issues in my private parts…….. it is recognised that Skin (Cutaneous) T-Cell Lymphoma is incurable and will come and go during the year.

He needs to see his consultant as they are the best people to direct the best treatment……. I was under a very good Dermatologist for the first 14 years until my second type of T-Cell (Peripheral T-Cell NHL) appeared taking me to stage 4 needing to then be seen by a Haematologist.

  • Hi we were never really told what type he had- his original lesion was on his lip! Told it was quite rare- sample sent to various specialists- initially told chemo etc then told no need for anything then after specialists had viewed case radiotherapy on lip! Should i be contacting dermatologist rather than Gp or go down Gp route first?

  • Skin (Cutaneous) T-Cell Lymphoma can turn up ‘anywhere’ on the body…… at my worst my skin was 70% covered .

On the whole GPs do not know how to deal with skin NHLs……. If he is under a Dermatologist they are the people to talk with.

  • Thank you! He has Haematology appt telephone end of month but not due to see Dermatology until next year! Dont wish to make a fuss - Gp sent swab came back as antibodies/anaerobic ??? Antibiotics given but not helped- looks ulcer like now bless him but no itch etc! He reluctant to contact Dermatologist

  • Dermatology are the experts in all things skin….. you are definitely NOT making a fuss……

Getting the best treatment available to reduce these challenges is very important…… my Dermatologist insisted that they would like to know about anything new that was going on…. rather find out later and have to catch up.

  • Thank you will try and persuade him to contact Dermatologist! Much appreciated! Will check paperwork we have see if i can identify the cancer type!

  • Sorry to hear of all this. Please urge him to see the dermatologist as soon as possible. Most Skin Lymphoma cases are referred to haematology by dermatologists after they have had little treatment success. With his lymphoma history, he is justified in making a fuss! You as well.

I have been in remission from NHL for 10 years and MDS (marrow cancer) for eight. Yet, I am still monitored regularly by a dermatologist. She it was who caught a skin cancer on my scalp.

Average cases warrant average attention. Your husband is not average!

  • Thank you! No joy Weary he only wants to see Gp so managed to get appt later today!! I get it he doesnt want to think that nhl is still about!! He feels because he not having regular check ups with Dermatology he not at risk!!

  • What did our grandma’s always say…… a stitch in time save’s nine……. his reaction is a ‘man’ thing Rolling eyes

Due to me having to be treated for 2 rare T-Cell NHLs at the same time in late 2013 to late 2015 things got rather complicated…… but for the first 14 years (See my storymy skin NHL went through phases….. but I kept in close contact with my Dermatologist who helped me when required….

But believe me, even when keeping a close eye on things the condition can change very quickly…… and stuff kicks off  (:

    ((hugs))
