I was diagnosed with Primary mediastinal B cell lymphoma in June 21 age 29 male. Currently undergoing chemo R-CHOP treatment. I just completed my 3rd cycle last week Friday and  Just 2 days ago I experienced esophageal ulcer. I can’t drink nor eat anything right now admit in hospital and on antibiotics at the moment. Any experience on this? Also, can I consume supplements product consist of mycelium extract which believe canPraymprove immune systems and reduce chemo effect. Thanks in advance and wish everyone stay safePray

  • Hi and welcome to this corner of the Community although always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our blood cancer groups.

I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare incurable but treatable type of skin Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Stage 4a and although my blood cancer ‘type’ is different I have experienced most types of treatments used but not necessarily the exact same drug mix.

Sorry to hear that you have developed a oesophageal ulcer, things like this can unfortunately happen, after my 3rd cycle of R-EPOCH I develop Helicobacter Pylori, a bacteria that developed ulcers and stomach inflammation. Up until this time I was doing ok with eating - even hospital food!! The 3 pack antibiotics I was given for the HP were horrendous and put me in bed for a week but I got through it and so will you.

As for supplements the advice is always check in with your team as there can be clashes with treatments and indeed a reduction in the effectiveness of treatments. My team were good at advising the best products I could have.
