I've recently been diagnosed with a Grade 1 slow growing NET on my pancreas which is about 6cm. Following discussion with medical consultant it's been suggested that I have a Whipples procedure which means removal of most of my pancreas, gall bladder, duodenum etc. Apart from the usual risks of surgery it will leave me with type 1 diabetes.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has either gone through this procedure or who is, like me, been told to seriously consider it.
Thanks
Hi PaulF and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm not from this group but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet.
I've had a look in the group to see if anyone else has mentioned having a Whipples procedure but only found posts that are over 3 years old. However, searching all the groups has brought up these results. You could have a look through them and respond to any of the more recent posters if you wanted to ask them more about their experience.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
