After living life in the fast lane I was diagnosed with  PNET several years ago and since Christmas last I've been prescribed Lanreotide.

While ive accepted my condition its beginning to feel that I'm shuffling around in an ever decreasing circle and it's starting to become a bit of a grind and it feels like I'm stuck in an ever narrowing rut.

I find it very difficult to motivate myself, probably due to the fact that for most of the time I'm stuck to within panic distance of the nearest Loo, making it difficult to engage in a "normal" lifestyle.

Anyone else out there trying to live with similar issues?

How do you deal with it?

  • Hi and welcome to the Online Community. I have a different type of cancer and am not familiar with Lanreotide but I have read of the side effect you mention.

I'd have a word with your CNS and see what they suggest to counter-act the side effects. I myself had Brachytherapy which has caused some bowel issues for which I take Immodium. That does the job for me but you'd need to be absolutely sure it won't affect the efficacy of the Lanreotide.

    Sending hugs, B xx

    Hi Stravaig,

I also have a PNet and started Lanreotide a couple of months ago. I also have had a few side effects and I can confirm that my cancer nurse has told me to take immodium for when it’s at its worst.

She also said to look at the foods that you shouldn’t eat when on lanreotide as this can cause a more severe reaction to diarrhoea.

The side effects do make me feel like I’m in a rut but I do make sure I go out every day for a walk which helps and try to plan little tasks each day so I feel like I’ve achieved something!

    Take care xx V
