So my dad has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma but awaiting prognosis. His blood tests shows 26% protein levels. Has anyone else had this level and if so what stage are you and what’s the prognosis?
Hi Kevin here, AKA Vespa, was also 26% 18 month ago, after 4 cycles of DVTB and subsequent Stem cell harvest and then Stem Cell transplant, i am leading a good life, it is not an easy journey, but the treatments for early MM are very good, the support of family and friends is very important, i had jsut retired and this was not the plan to spend my time recovering from an awful disease, but i have to say, the research and drugs and treatments are fantastic with a very good prognosis, its hard to put a clear prognosis as we are all different, i had not other health conditions, now i am in /remmision on a maintenance drug and no MM present at the moment i saw my consultant on Monday, he is happy with the progress, the Chemo the patient gets before the /Stem cell transplant takes some time to recover from in hospital, i was in for 10 days, and then 3-6 months at home, i now drive, walk my dog every morning, cut the grass, so it could be worse, please reach out to the Macmillan help sheets, they were good guidance in none medical words, best regards to Dad and you for reaching out on the Forum
Hi. Again they did not give me a stage and as much as I researched a lot and some great advice on this forum i just fought everything with a positive attitude and with humour. Talk to dad about how he feels as so much emphasis is on body health when mental health plays a big part also I am a father of 4 and grandad to 2 I want to be there to see them grow Love and support him Talk to him as it will dominate his thoughts every day Kevin
My dad was also recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma, so just wanted to send all the luck and health in the world to your dad, and all the support to you and your family. It’s tough going through it not knowing how to help, but just being there is enough. Whether it’s sitting with him watching football or coming over with dinner, just being there is enough. There are so many support resources for both your dad and for you - reach out whenever you feel you need it :)
