Hi All

I had HDC/SCT in Oct/Nov 2020 and over the past few months have been recovering quite well. But for the last week have been getting severe itchy skin on my neck and chest, which also has been keeping me awake at night, and very dry, flaky skin on my face and forehead. I've been using E45 cream on it which helps a bit, but just wanted to know if anyone else had the same issue, post stem cell? and is this something I should be asking the haematology team about or my GP?

Thanks

    Hello

Glad to hear that you've  had your STC and are recovering well. That must have been even more of a worry with covid too!

I can certainly  remember itchy flaky skin which happened about two months after my STC. It was on my face, scalp, neck chest and back. It made me very miserable.

My GP was really helpful and understanding.  Made arrangements so that I didnt have to sit in the waiting room with everyone else. This was two years ago so back when waiting rooms were overheated and full of snuffling patients!

I was given two different types of steroid cream. One for face and one for the rest.  They worked really well and really quickly. So definitely worth asking them.

Best wishes on your road to recovery.

    Hi Sue

Thanks for your post. Yes it has been difficult going though the treatment in the middle of Covid. The SCT was delayed for a while with all the lock-down rules going on, so I was lucky to get it in October.

Sounds like you had the same issue as me. I'll definitely check with my GP about the steroid cream.

Glad to know it's not just me, it's good to have this forum to check with other people who've been through the same thing. If anything happens now, with changes health-wise, I get concerned about whether it's to do with the treatment or not.

    Kind regards

    Karl

  • Oh gosh - yes.  My HDSTC was at the star of 2019 and I still have dry skin.  I was prescribed "Zero Cream" by the GP but found it so thick as to be almost impossible to put on.  I have since then been using cocoa butter and have found this has helped much more.

Yes dry skin is a constant nuisance. Think it is now more to do with even more handwashing than ever! Plus being stuck inside the house through a long winter with the central heating on.

Cocoa butter is really good I agree.
