Hello all, I’m happy to be part of this community. Thanks for accepting me.
I’m here, as I’m navigating suspected Mesothelioma tests with my partner. He’s a reasonably fit and active 70 year old. as a young carpenter apprentice he was exposed to Asbestos. He had a lung cancer scare in 2004 but it turned out to be scarring.
We ended up in A&E for 24 hours, one month ago. They found fluid in his right Lung. He stayed in hospital so they could extract the fluid, 1.5 litres! The fluid test results didn’t show cancer cells but they are worried about some raised markers cells that look dysplastic. Next step, biopsy/ VATS surgery. Next Monday 7th, we have appt with the surgeon to discuss the surgery. And hopefully we will have date for the surgery. I’m worried sick and ‘up the walls’. I’m not showing this to my stoical partner. I will check the forum and try to prepare questions for Monday. It’s all terrifying. I’m relieved to be part of this forum

Hello, it is so worrying. My husband too was a joiner and worked with asbestos 50 years ago … the same thing happened to my husband, fluid on the lungs. the waiting is just awful.
Hope that if it is they have caught it early x
I was an apprentice joiner 1966-70. Diagnosed almost a year ago and on immunotherapy.. hopefully your results will be good.
I’m glad the treatment is working so far, for you. My partner worked as apprentice with Asbestos 1970-73. He has epithelioid Meso and been offered immunotherapy and will start at the end of the month.
Yes, the waiting is horrible. He’s been diagnosed with Meso and will start treatment in next 3 / 4 weeks. I hope your husband is okay xxx
Unfortunately, things went wrong for my husband in January and sadly he passed away in July. The immunotherapy stopped working and his red blood cells were disappearing, could have been a side affect of drugs they never really understood. Treatment had to stop until bloods were sorted , obviously the cancer was growing, eventually it spread to his bowel, he had to have an emergency operation and just never recovered … so so sad
So far so good, couple of side effects dealt with. Good luck to your partner, hope it goes well.
I am very sorry to hear that. I don’t think this cancer is fully understood yet, so many imponderables. Immunotherapy helps the body fight the cancer but can cause other problems as we know. No wonder the first prognosis you are given is usually short as they just don't know how each individual will do.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
