Dad had a consultant appointment 9 weeks ago after numerous tests found a large amount of fluid on his chest this was drained with a needle and a ultrasound after this the consultant then suggested he have a hospital stay a chest drain inserted and a biopsy , they removed over 3litres of fluid off his chest and had talc inserted in his lung
we returned 6 weeks later to the consultant with no biopsy results back but the consultant said after looking at his lungs she think my dads lungs don’t look normal and suggested he has mesothelioma in situ but this is still not confirmed ?? As his biopsy results are still not back she told us we have to wait and see if BAP1 is not present that was over 6 half weeks ago she also suggested a plural catheter to help what even is BAP1 and what is this to do with his results im so confused
his health has deteriorated more in the last 6 months his walking is terrible and he’s out of breath he’s falling asleep all and has lost over 3 stone and has severe constipation he said he’s not in pain in his chest or coughing but not sure if he’s putting a brave face on he has denied any further anti cancer treatment as this wouldn’t be suitable due to his age and health
Is this normal to wait this long for biopsy results and does bap1 test influence whether you have mesothelioma we are going out of our mind worrying I was given an email address of a nurse specialist if we had any questions or worries but we haven’t had a reply as of yet and know they are all so busy so don’t want to keep emailing
sorry for the long post
Hi Doogiebear
Welcome to our community though sorry to hear about your dad. My wife's cancer is very different but just about everyone on here will recognize the issue with waiting for results.
I had not heard of BAP1 before but I did find what seems like an interesting article here
Hope you get an answer soon.
<<hugs>>
Steve
