ALM anyone?

Hi all,

Please note that I am copying what I wrote in my profile section to save time...

36 years old with a husband and 4 children that I love with every part of me, and I found what I believe is ALM on my right big toe!

No one has confirmed what it is yet but GP says it looks sinister and hospital say that due to the colour, it's best to remove it to be safe. Removal is booked in for August 30th. Hoping biopsy results don't take too long to come through. Honestly not sure what to expect going forward but can't say I was expecting to have a cancer diagnosis at my age.

Glad to be part of a community that understands.

If anyone has or had ALM - success stories would be much appreciated

Munch x

  • Hi Munch,
I have never dealt with ALM but just wanted to say I hope your biopsy goes very well (and also, be very gentle with your movements afterwards - the local anaesthetic can mislead you into walking as normal, but from my experience my foot biopsy was the most painful one I've ever had... but maybe I was leaping around too much!) Take it easy and hope your hubby is taking good care of you! (I am 32 and was diagnosed with Stage 2 melanoma last year) xx

  • Hi sanic

You are right, the anesthetic definitely leads you into a false sense of security in terms of walking around on the foot afterwards, and the injection in my toe was absolutely the worst pain I've dealt with in a long long time but overall it hasn't been that bad and my husband has been amazing at taking over round the house. Just got to wait 6-8 weeks now for results and to find out if I have to do it all over again (and lose a big chunk of toe by the sounds of it!)

It's really daunting having to go through all of this and as sympathetic as friends and family are, it's not quite the same understanding as someone whose been through it so I really appreciate you getting back to me.

    Thanks so much x

  • Hi Munch,

Ohhh I'm so sorry about your toe </3 Glad it's over now and as they say no news is good news, if they find something you will be bumped up the list and prioritised (which is a good thing in itself).

I totally know what you mean, they don't quite understand how it feels to go through it and be the one thinking about it when you go to sleep etc. Sometimes I feel like they can just toddle off and go to the shops/make a cup of tea and forget about it. It's much harder for us to switch it off because it's our bodies!

Feel free to send another message on this thread if you want to chat and I will get an email notification. Sending you lots of love and good vibes! xxx
