Feeling rather nervous with all the paperwork and phone calls .. have my first appointment with consultant soon to discuss wide local excision and consideration of lymph node testing … obviously worried if I go for the lymph node test that they find something … my mole was on my arm so will be testing armpit nodes has anyone had this experience that could share please Pray tone1

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to our corner of the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

When I was diagnosed with melanoma I was given the option of having a sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB). I decided to go for it as I didn't want to find years down the line that, if the melanoma came back, I could have started treatment sooner if I'd had a SLNB.
My melanoma was also on my arm so the SLNB in my armpit was removed. The WLE and SLNB happened over two days. On the first day I had a lymphoscintigraphy which identified the location of the sentinel lymph node in my armpit. The second day was the WLE and SLNB. Having never had any surgery before, let alone a general anaesthetic, I was nervous but everyone was very good, explaining what was happening and it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd imagined.
    I hope this helps.
